The name of Shanshui community was changed after the Nationalist government came to Taiwan. It used to be called Zhumu falls into the water. The story goes like this: in the early days of Shanshui development, many families in this area were pig farmers. They mostly raised pigs on the cliffs of the Highlands west of the beach. It is said that at that time, there were often octopus of one meter in size who would go ashore and roll pigs into the sea when the pig farmers didn't pay attention. Once upon a time, the big octopus went ashore to catch a pig. The pig was frightened and howled. When the sow heard this, she ran to the octopus to fight with the octopus. Finally, the sow saved the pig, but she tumbled into the sea with the octopus. Later, in order to remind pig farmers to be careful of octopus, people living in Shanshui called this place "mother pig falls into the water" or "mother pig water". After the national government came to Taiwan, she thought this name was "mother pig falls into the water" Because there is a Guanyin Mountain in Shanshui community, the word "Shan" and the word "Shui" in the beautiful beach and sea area are combined to name "Shan Shui" which is still used today. The origin of Shanshui beach also has something to do with Suokang next door. It is said that every winter in Penghu, the northeast monsoon blows violently. Under the flying sand and rocks, the sand in Suokang mountain, which is located in the northeast of Shanshui community, is blown to the south of Shanshui community. It is hoarded in the seaside and becomes today's Shanshui beach.
