The KAP Shui Mun bridge is an important part of Hong Kong's roads because it, together with the Tsing Ma Bridge, serves as the only road link between Lantau (and Chek Lap Kok Hong Kong International Airport) and the urban area.
Architectural design
The height of the bridge is 47 meters above sea level, while the height of the tower is 150 meters. In terms of weight, the weight of concrete is 73000 cubic meters.
The construction of the KAP Shui Mun bridge started on December 21, 1992. It is a double deck design with a total contract value of HK $1643 million. The open-air upper layer of the bridge is a three lane two-way separated expressway, and the covered lower layer is the tracks of two MTR Airport Express lines and Tung Chung Line, and two single lane roads for emergency (such as typhoon).

Bridge construction
The side span and the main span near the pylon are constructed on site with formwork and temporary supports.

The concrete part is built on site.
The completed components are transported to the bridge by pontoon, lifted by crane and connected again.
