Historically, there has been a saying of "south and North Shaolin". In many people's impression, "South Shaolin" is Fujian Shaolin Temple, and "North Shaolin" is Songshan Shaolin Temple. But at the beginning of 2007, Shi Yongxin, the abbot of Songshan Shaolin Temple, came forward to clarify: in all the books and records of Shaolin Temple, the words "South Shaolin Temple" have never been seen, but "North Shaolin Temple" exists. However, the "North Shaolin Temple" does not refer to the Songshan Shaolin Temple, but refers to the North Shaolin Temple in Jixian County, Tianjin. According to Dongfang today, April 10, 2007, Shaolin Temple plans to spend 8 to 10 years to jointly invest 160 million yuan with Tianjin to complete the restoration and reconstruction of North Shaolin Temple and build it into a world-famous temple.
According to historical records, in the early years of the Yuan Dynasty, the Mongol army went south and killed people. For this reason, Xueting Fuyu, who was then the elder of Shaolin Temple, ran day and night to persuade the Mongolians to be compassionate. At that time, under his leadership, five Shaolin temples were set up in Helin, Jizhou (now Jixian County, Tianjin), Taiyuan, Chang'an, Luoyang and other places. Except for Jizhou, they were not named Shaolin Temple. The North Shaolin Temple in Jixian county is the only one named "North Shaolin Temple". Since then, Xueting Fuyu's disciple Zou asked for approval of the lower courtyard of Shaolin Temple. They were all in the Central Plains, and each had its own temple name. No one named Shaolin. This true history is clearly recorded on the iron bell cast in 1336.
