It covers an area of more than 2000 square meters. It is 3 kilometers away from Hua'an County.
Located at the head of yunshuixi bridge, the original temple is toppled, and its name is unknown. In the 1980s, the masses of Xiaban village built a small pavilion named "Ping'an Pavilion" to protect the stone Buddha in the temple. It was renamed "Ping'an Temple" on February 29, 2000. It covers an area of more than 2000 square meters. It is 3 kilometers away from Hua'an County.
A stone statue of Amitabha Buddha standing in Ping'an temple, built in the Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty (about 1554 AD), 446 years ago, is 2.28 meters high (including the base, the Buddha is 2.08 meters high), 2 meters around the waist, and weighs 1.45 tons. It is magnificent, dignified, elegant, simple and heavy, exquisite and superb. It is a precious heritage of Hua'an ancient stone carving culture and a Buddhist art in Hua'an It's a witness of the development of art. Hua'an was originally the 25th capital of Longxi County. It was established in 1928. Huafeng town (also known as Shibao town) where the county is located is very remote. Due to the barrier of high mountains, the traffic is very inconvenient. The Beixi waterway of Jiulong River is the only access to the outside world. However, the Jiulong River section from the county town to Xinxu can only be reached by mountain road from Yunshui stream near Luoxi village due to the large drop, abundant beach and Laie in the river, numerous boulders and strange arrangement. This is the only way for scholars, farmers, businessmen and goods to pass. Therefore, in the history of Hua'an, this mountain road records a long history of passers-by History has witnessed the hardships of mountain people. Because the mountains are rugged and the road is difficult to walk, in order to make the pedestrians have a safe journey, some people donated money to build a small temple on the mountain during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. This stone Buddha stands in this ancient temple. It is not only a place for pedestrians to rest, but also a place to pray for peace. Later, because the temple was in disrepair and collapsed, only this stone Buddha stood in the grass in the open air. In 1954, Huaan built Huafu highway. The stone Buddha was placed on the inner slope of the highway to let the rain hit the sun. When the yunshuixi highway bridge was built in 1984, the stone Buddha was moved to the south side of the bridge by the migrant workers. At the same time, this stone Buddha was valued by Xiamen Nanputuo Buddhist Association Mr. Li. With the consent of the leaders of relevant departments, he invited it to Nanputuo temple to worship. Later, because the local people tried to stop it, he left the stone Buddha behind. Later, the villagers of Liziping in Xiaban village volunteered to work and pay for things. They built a simple Pavilion at the end of yunshuixi bridge and moved the stone Buddha into the pavilion. The pavilion is called "Ping'an Pavilion".
According to textual research, stone Buddha and Yunshui River Bridge are of the same origin. Yunshuixi bridge was also built in Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty. According to the inscriptions on Yunshui River Bridge, the valley of Yunshui River Bridge is dangerous, the beach is running fast, and it is very dangerous for people to cross the river. It is very difficult to build a temple in the west of the river for a giant Buddha to live in from the local economic conditions and terrain at that time. Only when the bridge is built and the Buddha is built at the same time can it be completed. From the identification of the stone quality, the stone quality of LIFO and yunshuixiqiao is exactly the same, which proves that they are from the same origin. From the perspective of the stone Buddha statue, the right hand of the stone Buddha is in the "Yu Yuan Yin" style, the left hand is bent to the chest to hold a pearl, the forehead bun is another pearl, the face is plump, the eyes are kind, the corners of the mouth are slightly upturned to make a smile, which makes people feel friendly. It indicates that in this dangerous place, the Buddha light is shining, and the journey is safe, which is also in line with the original intention of building the bridge.
In the early hours of July 7, 1992, the stone Buddha was stolen. After the incident, leaders at all levels attached great importance to it and organized police officers and cultural relic protection activists to follow it. It took 45 days and traveled more than 1000 kilometers. On the afternoon of August 22, the robbers were captured in Longhai and the stone Buddha was recovered. The stone Buddha was appraised by the provincial cultural relic experts and Zhangzhou Municipal Cultural Relic Management Committee. They all agreed that the stone Buddha belongs to the top grade of the national second-class cultural relic and is precious. The famous Buddhist monk Jue Xing thinks that the stone Buddha is the "Amitabha Buddha" and the main Buddha with the word "Jingshi". The Western God of paradise, together with Guanyin Bodhisattva and dashizhi Bodhisattva, is called the "three saints of the west". The archaeologists who came to Hua'an have a high evaluation on the beautiful shape, clear and smooth carving lines, simple and elegant, flexible and holy manner, and the intact Buddha statues. It is obvious that the stone Buddha has a high cultural connotation of ancient stone carving.
In order to effectively manage this cultural relic and historic site, the Council of Ping'an Pavilion in Yunshui river of Hua'an County was established on August 28, 1992 to strengthen the management of cultural relics and make arrangement and planning for the surrounding environment of Ping'an Pavilion. In order to raise funds in various ways and try to expand the construction of the site, more than 200000 yuan has been raised successively. In 1994, Mr. Xie Wenxing (religious personage and Buddhist name Shi Rongde) of Fuding temple, Fangliao Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan Province, went to Ping'an pavilion to offer incense. On September 26, 1996, he donated 116000 yuan to the Buddha of Ping'an Pavilion four times.
On February 29, 2000, Hua'an County Cultural Bureau approved the establishment of "Hua'an County Yunshui Giant Buddha cultural relics protection and management committee". Later, "Ping'an Pavilion" was renamed "Ping'an Temple". Over the past few years, the management committee has done a lot of work. In addition to doing a lot of publicity and practical work on the protection of cultural relics, it has also expanded the site, such as building retaining walls, building rockeries, building mountain gates, building fences for land acquisition, building reception rooms and toilets, installing electric lights and telephones, beautifying the green environment, and strengthening security. Only the scale construction of Ping'an temple will be expanded. The main project of the first phase is 260 square meters, and a new temple with a height of 12 meters will be built. After careful design, all the antique buildings are made of reinforced concrete with modern technology. Carved beams, painted buildings, relief art, glazed tile roof and temple ridge are all made of colored porcelain to shape the dragon, Phoenix, peony and character landscape. On November 27, 2001, the completion ceremony of Ping'an temple and the opening ceremony of moving the stone Buddha into the temple were held. From then on, people can visit its solemn Dharma. Every day, many tourists and believers come to visit and worship. On the first and the fifteenth day of each month, people come and go in an endless stream. Many overseas Chinese come here to visit their relatives and ancestors.
In January 1985, the people's Government of Hua'an County accepted the stone Buddha of Ping'an temple as the first batch of county-level cultural relics protection units.
