Former Zhongshan Medical University
Medical College of Lingnan University
In November 1835, Peter Parker, a missionary of American axiom, opened an ophthalmic medical bureau in ShiSanHang, Guangzhou, which was renamed "Pok Tsai medical bureau" in 1859.
In 1866, Boji medical bureau was relocated and officially named "Boji hospital".
In 1879, Boji medical school was renamed as the Nanhua school attached to Boji hospital. In 1886, Sun Yat Sen entered Nanhua school to study medicine in the name of "Yixian" and engaged in revolutionary activities.
In 1904, it was renamed Nanhua medical school, in 1930, it was renamed Lingnan University Medical School, and in 1936, it was also called Dr. Sun Yat Sen Memorial Medical School, and the private Xiage medical school was merged.
Guangdong Guanghua Medical College
In the spring of 1908, Guangdong Guanghua medical college was founded by Zheng Hao and others. In 1912, 1928, 1929 and 1952, the school was renamed as private Guangdong Guanghua medical school, Guangdong Guanghua Medical University, private Guangdong Guanghua Medical College and public Guangdong Guanghua medical college.

In the spring of 1909, Guangdong public medical school was established. It was renamed Guangdong Public Medical College in 1915 and Guangdong Public Medical University in 1924.
It was incorporated into national Guangdong University in 1925 and named National Sun Yat sen University in 1926.
In 1931, it was renamed Medical College of National Sun Yat sen University.
Zhongshan Medical Sciences University
In 1953, the departments of higher education were adjusted, and the medical school of National Sun Yat sen University and the medical school of Lingnan University were merged to form South China Medical College.
In 1954, Guangdong Guanghua Medical College merged with South China Medical College to establish a new South China Medical College, which began to recruit foreign students in 1954.
In 1956, South China Medical College was renamed Guangzhou Medical College.
In 1957, it was renamed Zhongshan Medical College, and in 1961, it was designated as a national key medical college under the Ministry of health.
In 1981, it became one of the first units authorized to confer doctor's and master's degrees.
In 1985, approved by the Ministry of health, Zhongshan Medical College was renamed Zhongshan Medical University.
Since 1993, the Ministry of education, the Ministry of health and the people's Government of Guangdong Province have jointly established Zhongshan Medical University.
In 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the State Planning Commission and the Ministry of finance to the State Council, Sun Yat Sen Medical University was transferred from the Ministry of health to Guangdong Province

Gezhi Academy
Guangzhou Gezhi college is a famous missionary school in China in the 19th century. It was founded in Guangzhou by American Presbyterian missionary Dr. habaand in 1887, and later developed into a private Lingnan University. Boji hospital and its affiliated medical school became the medical school of Lingnan University.
In 1907, Gezhi Academy was changed into Lingnan School and medical school was set up. Later, the school became Lingnan University, and its medicine became part of St. John's University.
Lingnan University
Lingnan University is a private university founded by American friends in Guangzhou. It was set up by the Chinese in 1927. At the beginning of its establishment, Lingnan University experienced several changes in its site. First, it moved from Shaji Libu to Sipailou evangelical hall and Huadi Cuixiang garden. In 1900, it moved to Macao. In 1904, it set its permanent site in Kangle village, ten miles southeast of Guangzhou city.
After that, Lingnan University, which experienced the baptism of war, moved south to Hong Kong in 1937 and north to Shaoguan in 1942. After the victory of the Anti Japanese war in 1945, Lingnan University was able to return to recreation.
National Sun Yat sen University
In February 1924, after taking over Guangdong Agricultural College and Guangdong University of law, Zou Lu called the students of the three schools to hold a meeting in the auditorium of Guangdong Normal University on the 24th of that month. At the meeting, he announced the preparations for the establishment of national Guangdong University and reported on the preparations and plans. On March 3, Guangdong University held its first preparatory meeting, which focused on discussing and adopting the outline of the Preparatory Office of national Guangdong University. In order to ensure the preparatory work and the smooth opening of national Guangdong University, Sun Yat Sen personally raised funds. On June 9, 1924, Sun Yat Sen appointed Zou Lu as the first president of national Guangdong University.
On June 21, 1924, Guangdong University held the inauguration ceremony of the president and the graduation ceremony of students. Sun Yat Sen entrusted Hu Hanmin, the general counsellor, to read out the admonition on behalf of the Grand Marshal at the ceremony: "the sea of learning is vast, and Yu Ren is a saint. This is the beginning of his graduation from university. The foundation is solid, the industry is famous, the peak, the ambition. For the welfare of the society, for the light of the nation's family, and for the sake of the kings, strive to improve themselves. " Sun Yat Sen wrote the school motto: "erudition, interrogation, careful thinking, discernment and practice".
National Guangdong University is scheduled to officially open on September 15, 1924. At that time, the school did not hold the opening ceremony and the inauguration ceremony. After reconsideration by the Council, the opening ceremony and the founding ceremony were set on November 11, 1924, which became the anniversary of the national Guangdong University.
In 1925, "Guangdong Public Medical University" and "Guangdong Public Technical School" were merged.
On March 12, 1925, after the death of Sun Yat Sen, Liao Zhongkai proposed to change the name of Guangdong University to Sun Yat sen University, which was approved by the national government in October. In the same year, the medical department was added. Since then, Guangdong Public Medical University, national Guangdong College of law, and Engineering College of Guangdong Provincial Yiqin University have been merged.
In March 1926, Guo Moruo was the head of liberal arts, and Yu Dafu was the head of English literature department.
On July 17, 1926, it was officially renamed "National Sun Yat sen University" and became the highest University in Guangdong.
On August 17, 1926, the national government ordered the university to be renamed National Sun Yat sen University. After the name change of national Guangdong University, many universities named "Zhongshan" appeared in China, such as Wuhan, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Lanzhou, Xi'an and so on. In February 1928, the University, with Cai Yuanpei as its president, decided to keep the National Sun Yat sen University in Guangzhou as a memorial, and the rest of Sun Yat sen University was changed to its local name.
In January 1927, Lu Xun was employed from Xiamen University as the director of literature department and Dean of academic affairs of CUHK. In August, it was renamed National first Sun Yat sen University.
In March 1928, it was renamed "National Sun Yat sen University".
In 1931, it was changed into a college of literature, law, science, agriculture and medicine. First, four departments of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and chemical engineering were set up. The campus was tentatively located at Wenming road. The next year, it was moved to the new campus of Shipai (South China University of technology and South China Agricultural University).
In 1935, the Institute was set up and began to recruit graduate students, becoming one of the only three universities in China at that time (one of the first three universities to set up "research institutes" in China). In 1938, a normal university was set up, and a department of architectural engineering was set up in the Institute of science and technology. In October of the same year, he moved to Chengjiang, Yunnan Province under the influence of the Anti Japanese War, and moved back to Pingshi, northern Guangdong Province in 1940.
In 1945, he moved back to Shipai, Guangzhou and other places to resume classes. In 1947, he set up the Department of physical education. Yuan Jun was employed from Wuhan University as the director of the Department of physical education at CUHK.
Sun Yat-sen University
After the adjustment of departments in 1952, the former Department of Arts and science of Sun Yat sen University merged with the Department of Arts and science of Lingnan University to form a new Sun Yat sen University, which was named Kangyuan park. Since 1952, colleges and universities across the country have carried out a large-scale department adjustment.
South China Institute of Technology (now South China University of Technology), South China Agricultural College (now South China Agricultural University), South China Medical College (now Zhongshan Medical University) and South China Normal University (now South China Normal University) were established.
Led by Professor Zhao Chaomin, the Department of astronomy of Sun Yat sen University was transferred to Nanjing University. Professor Chen Guoda, director of the Department of geology of Sun Yat sen University, led 49 teachers and students to Hunan Central South University of mining and Metallurgy (now Central South University). The Department of philosophy of Sun Yat sen University was led by Professor Zhu Qianzhi, head of the Department, to Peking University. The Department of Anthropology of Sun Yat sen University was led by Professor Yang Chengzhi, head of the Department of anthropology, and transferred to Beijing Central University for nationalities. They went to Nanjing, Changsha and Beijing on October 16, 17 and 20, 1952.
The new campus of Sun Yat sen University was moved from Shipai to Lingnan University. The original Shipai site of Sun Yat sen University has been moved to the newly established South China Institute of technology, South China Agricultural College and other schools. The original baizigang site of Sun Yat sen University has established South China Medical College.
In October 2001, Sun Yat sen University and Sun Yat Sen Medical University were merged after the adjustment of departments in 1952. After the adjustment, the new Sun Yat sen University has 18 departments, including Chinese, foreign languages, history, language, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, finance, finance, accounting, trade, enterprise management, politics, law, society and economy, In addition, there are four specialized subjects in Russian, accounting, finance and enterprise management, and three research institutes in Chinese language and literature, history and plants.
In July 1953, the second Department adjustment began.
