Central Street

The central street rose hundreds of years ago with the flourishing incense of Tianhou palace. It is the earliest developed old street in the history of Penghu development. It is not difficult to imagine the glory of the past when it is known as "the first street in Penghu". Like the fate of other old streets, the central street, which has passed through the golden age, is now desolate, but the quiet lanes, the decadent old shops and the lost historic sites exude the beauty of the vicissitudes of time.

Street history

As early as the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, the central street developed into a commercial street of great scale in Penghu, with various shops, merchants and grocery stores, forming a prosperous scene of "seven streets and one city" in Ma palace city at that time. Most of the so-called seven streets are in today's central area, while one refers to the fish market and vegetable market in front of Mazu Palace (i.e. Tianhou Palace). In the past, there were a lot of people coming and going, and there was a lot of cheering.

The old houses on both sides were built by the veterans after the restoration. They were renovated and covered for the Fujian style buildings. The simple appearance of the houses is a bit messy. However, in the short tunnel, there are several human footprints. Wanjunjing and Shigong temple, which are listed as the third class historical sites, are all here. Walking to the bottom of the lane, the street from siyanjing on the left is central street, and the street from Narcissus Palace on the right is one of the seven prosperous streets of that year.

Walking in the old street, the mottled houses are lined with a few old trees, which have a lingering old love. The houses on the central street used to be hot golden noodle shops. Today, when business opportunities are exhausted, we can only see the prosperity of those days from the few remaining ancient early style pastry shops, Chinese medicine shops, grocery stores and hotels.

From Magong city bus station, go south along Minzu Road, pass the intersection of Huimin road and reach tianhougong. The street on the right side of tianhougong is zhongyang street, from which the old street tour begins. Shigongci and wanjunjing are located in one lane of zhongyang street. Go straight to the bottom, turn left, that is zhongyang street. Go straight to the bottom, you can reach siyanjing. Turn right, go straight to the bottom, you can reach shuixiangong.
