Development history
The museum was formerly known as the cultural relics room of Wuyishan cultural center. In 1992, a museum was built at the site of Yuanyuan temple in Wuyishan City. It was completed and officially opened in February 1993. The cultural relics room was canceled at the same time, and the cultural relics under its management were transferred to the museum. With a total investment of 1.4 million yuan, the Museum covers an area of 2400 square meters and a construction area of 1500 square meters. It is a five story antique building with reinforced concrete structure, and has six exhibition rooms, cultural relics library and other supporting facilities. There are more than 600 pieces of cultural relics from the late Neolithic period to the end of the Qing Dynasty, including 525 pieces identified by experts from the Cultural Relics Identification group of Fujian Provincial Department of culture, and 6 pieces of national second-class cultural relics. There are 474 class III cultural relics. In 1996, in order to expand the publicity, let more Chinese and foreign tourists know Wuyishan and Wuyishan, the museum was moved to the current site. On May 1, 1996, it was officially opened to the public. The original building was transferred to Wuyishan library.
From November 1998 to March 1999, in order to cooperate with Wuyishan's declaration of "World Heritage", the museum carried out a comprehensive revision, adopting advanced display means and preventive protection measures. On the wall at the entrance of the museum is the title of Wuyishan Museum inscribed by Zhao Puchu, the late vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference. The couplets on both sides of the gate are taken from the poem "Chinese ancient culture, Mount Tai and Wuyi" by Cai Shangsi, a famous contemporary historian and professor of Fudan University in Shanghai
On June 10, 2017, after more than half a year of closing and maintenance, the exhibition hall of Wuyishan Museum reopened and continued to be open to the audience for free. After the renovation, the number of cultural relics on display in the museum has also increased significantly. From more than 800 pieces to more than 1000 pieces now.
