According to historical records, from 1759 to 1772, the grain harvest in Balikun was more than ten years in succession, so the Qing government took this place as one of the grain treasuries. Eight 24 storehouses were built here, with a storage capacity of 48000 stones, equivalent to 288000 kg.
Compared with the new granaries, these old granaries are so rustic and crude. After more than 200 years of vicissitudes, the ancient people's advanced wisdom has made them still in use, and they have irreplaceable advantages over the new granaries.
These ancient granaries are all civil structures. There is a ventilation building on the top of the granary and a wooden floor under it. Although the sun is scorching outside, the inside is still fresh and cool. It is said that there is no need to set up additional dehumidification equipment and spray insecticides here. No matter how long the grain stored inside is kept, it will never get moldy and produce insects.
