Tomb of Yu Ji

The tomb of concubine Yu is located in the Cultural Park of concubine Yu in the east of Lingbi County, Suzhou City, Anhui Province. On the side of the tomb, there used to be a temple of concubine Yu. There are statues of Xiang Yu and concubine Yu in the temple. It is a national AAAA tourist attraction.

It is said that concubine Yu has a gentle temperament and is well-educated, which is deeply loved by Xiang Yu. After Yu Ji committed suicide, Xiang Yu galloped south with her body. Unexpectedly, the Han soldiers came after her, and Xiang Yu left Yu Ji's body helpless. After Xiang Yu broke through the encirclement, the body of Yu Ji was moved and buried 2.5 kilometers east of "Balipu" by Chu soldiers who had no time to break through the encirclement. Later, the village appeared here was called "Yu Ji village". This is the source of Yu Ji's tomb.

Historical evolution

In the Qing Dynasty, the tombstone of Yu Ji was rebuilt.

In 1980, the leaders of Lingbi County thought that the tomb of concubine Yu was one of the remains of the Chu Han war, and it was officially designated as the county cultural relics protection unit.

To the east of Lingbi county and the south of Susi highway, there is an evergreen forest, in which an ancient tomb lies. The base of the tomb is uplifted, and there are lots of steles. This is the key cultural relic to be protected in Anhui Province, the tomb of Yu Ji.

The tomb of concubine Yu has gone through thousands of years and has been repaired at times. On the side of the tomb, there used to be a temple of concubine Yu, in which there are statues of Xiang Yu and concubine Yu. Yu Ji has willow eyebrows and apricot eyes, bright eyes and white teeth; Xiang Yu is dignified and strong. Around the statue, there are many stone carvings of poems and odes. In the Tang and Song Dynasties, Lingbi was the only way for the capital to go to the southeast. Literati often came to visit Yu Ji's tomb in groups, and then wrote poems to express their feelings of ancient times.

There is a display room in the park. The display room is of brick and wood structure, with small windows and light gray tiles. It has carved beams and painted buildings inside, with ingenious structure. Cultural relics unearthed from the tombs of kuaxia and Yu Ji, relevant historical materials, poems and Fu are displayed in the room. There are some stone carvings scattered in the cemetery, either from the Han Dynasty, or from the Tang and Song dynasties. The carving style of Zhenmu beast is very similar to the stone beast in front of Huo Qubing's tomb. Even the bricks around the stone tablet are Han bricks full of patterns! Don't forget to have a look at the Han Dynasty portraits at the entrance of the exhibition hall. They are rare art treasures of the Han Dynasty. There is a chieftain stone carving in the exhibition hall, which is carved with a woman's body. It's so similar to the female body carving of the ancient Willington doffer in Europe!

There is also a couplet in the garden, which is quite sad: Yuxi Naihe, since ancient times, many beauties have lost their lives; jiyean is here, leaving the tomb to dusk alone.

The tomb of concubine Yu is on the side of the gate of the cemetery. The mound is less than 2 meters high and is surrounded by low stone walls. In front of the tomb, there are six characters: "the tomb of concubine Yu of the Western Chu Dynasty". Beside the tomb, there is a stone tablet of concubine Yu of the Ming Dynasty. Special funds were allocated to rebuild the mound according to the original condition. The stone tablet and the stone tablet of the Ming and Qing Dynasties were re engraved with the marble produced in the county. The idle land nearby was incorporated into the tomb area to form a tomb with an area of nearly 100 square meters The cemetery is divided into two parts: the eastern part is the tomb area, and the western part is the flower garden pavilion, which serves as a place for tourists to rest and drink tea. So the tomb of Yu Ji becomes a tourist attraction.

Historical records

More than 2000 years ago, the final battle between Chu and Han was carried out in Lingbi, an ancient land. Xiang Yu, the famous hero of "Li Ba Shan Xi Qi Gai Shi", gave out a long chant of "Yu Xi, how can you be?". Yu Ji, the most beautiful woman who followed Xiang Yu in the southern and Northern wars, sang the sad song of "the king is exhausted, but the concubine is not alive" in the face of the desperate situation of being besieged and defeated like a mountain. She then drew her sword and killed herself.

Sima Qian wrote in the historical records of Xiang Yu: concubine Yu is beautiful in appearance, gentle in temperament, and well-educated, which is deeply loved by Xiang Yu. In 202 BC, Xiang Yu led his troops to break through the encirclement and was defeated by the Han Army led by Liu Bang. Liu Bang used "besieged on all sides" to question the battle array, disintegrated the morale of Chu soldiers, caused Xiang Yu to fall into the trap, led to the destruction of the whole army, and performed the heartbreaking tragedy of "Farewell My Concubine".

It is said that after Yu Ji committed suicide, Xiang Yu took her body and galloped south. Unexpectedly, the Han soldiers came after her. Xiang Yu left Yu Ji's body helpless. Later, the village here was called "Balipu", which means farewell to my concubine. After Xiang Yu broke through the encirclement, the body of concubine Yu was moved and buried by Chu soldiers who had no time to break through the encirclement 2.5km east of "Balipu". Later, the village appeared here was called "concubine Yu village", and the two places have remained unchanged since they got their names.
