School preparation

On October 10, 1974, Li Jiakuan, deputy secretary of the Party committee and deputy director of Xinyang District Bureau of culture and education, announced the news that Xinyang Prefecture Party committee was preparing to establish a normal college at the experience exchange meeting of universal primary education held in Guangshan County.

In November 1974, the Regional Bureau of culture and education sent people to the Department of education of Henan Province to ask for instructions on the establishment of Xinyang Teachers College. Wang Xizhang, director of the Department of education, said: "the Provincial Department of education also plans to set up a teacher's College in Xinyang. If the prefectural Party committee can let out the site of Xinyang high school in the western suburb of Xinyang and set up a provincial teacher's college, it can recruit more students in Xinyang, and Xinyang will benefit more." Xinyang senior high school is a key senior high school in Xinyang area, which belongs to the district management. The occupation of the high school site must be approved by Xinyang Prefecture Party committee.

In early February 1975, the prefectural Party committee held a standing committee meeting to formally listen to the report of the Regional Bureau of culture and education on the establishment of Teachers College and the opinions of the provincial department.

In March 1975, the leaders of the Bureau of culture and education reported the opinions of the provincial department and other matters to the Standing Committee meeting of the prefectural Party Committee for the second time. On July 6, Liu tingzhang, director of the Propaganda Department of the prefectural Party committee and leader of the Preparatory Leading Group of the branch, asked the preparatory group to hold a meeting to solicit opinions from all parties and work out a plan for the preparation of the branch. On July 18, the preparatory group worked out the overall plan for the establishment of the branch and reported it to the prefectural Party Committee for approval

Development history

In 1975, Xinyang branch of Kaifeng Normal University (now Henan University) was officially established. For more than three years before the site of Xinyang Normal School was officially determined for the summer vacation in 1978, Xinyang Normal School had been borrowing the school buildings, with poor school running conditions and lack of teaching materials, books and instruments.

Since 1977, the school has changed from working and learning at the same time during the Cultural Revolution to regular classroom education.

In the summer vacation of 1978, the school officially changed its name from "Xinyang branch of Kaifeng Normal University" to "Xinyang Normal University", and moved to No. 237 Chang'an Road to build a teaching building. In December, it was approved by the State Council as an undergraduate system, and became one of the first batch of authorized units for bachelor's degree in the next year.

In 1998, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as an authorized unit for master's degree.

In September 2002, according to the needs of social development and the requirements of higher education reform and development, Xinyang Normal University officially proposed the goal of changing its name to Xinyang Normal University. In April 2003, Henan Provincial Department of Education officially approved Xinyang Normal University to open Huarui college

In 2004, the University was granted the right to apply for the master's degree with the same academic level; in 2008, the University was granted the right to grant the master's degree to university teachers in-service; in 2009, the University was granted the training unit of professional master's degree of education; in 2010, the University was granted the training unit of professional master's degree of translation and engineering.

In 2016, the University was granted two master's degrees in Chinese history and computer science and technology, as well as two master's degrees in law and art.

In August 2019, the University was rated as a national innovation and entrepreneurship typical experience university by the Ministry of education.
