Two months after the renovation of Wei Lihuang's former residence in Hefei
Text:
"Located by the Nanfei River in Wei village, Feihe Town, Baohe District, there used to be a Qing Dynasty building with a combination of Chinese and Western elements. This is the former residence of Wei Lihuang, a famous general in the Anti Japanese war. Previously, due to disrepair, the building was damaged and almost collapsed into ruins. Recently, the reporter learned from Baohe district that after three years of renovation, the building complex has been renovated and the final finishing work is in progress. It will be completed and open to the outside world in about two months. "
"Yesterday afternoon, when the reporter came to the restoration site of Wei Lihuang's former residence, he saw a Hui style building courtyard with green bricks and black tiles in the village. In the northeast corner of the courtyard, a Western-style three story building stood in the courtyard. The black wood and mottled walls in the hall that had been preserved before also highlighted the vicissitudes of the building complex. According to the constructors, Wei Lihuang's former residence is a key cultural relic protection unit in Hefei. The restoration project has been basically completed, and the final door and window placement work is in progress. It will be open to the public in about two months. "
Wei Lihuang, the former owner of his former residence, is a native of Weixiang village in Hefei. He was a famous Anti Japanese patriotic general. He was once one of the "five tiger generals" in the Kuomintang army. He was famous at home and abroad for opening up the Sino Indian highway during the Anti Japanese war. He returned from Hong Kong to the mainland in 1955. Chairman Mao once praised him as "a leader who insisted on the Anti Japanese war in North China" and "a patriotic Kuomintang military and political personnel".
Chinese and Western architecture destroyed by fire
In the village, the reporter found Wei daoxun, the nephew of Wei Lihuang, who is 70 years old. He told the reporter that he had been waiting for this old house for 40 years. This old house, which has been more than 100 years, had 16 rooms in total, including gatehouse, open hall, wing room, building, courtyard, well, etc. At the back of the house is a three story western style building, which was once used as a defensive turret. This building complex was brilliant for a time, and it was still intact until the early liberation. However, in 1960, several children in the village burned broad beans in the small building to eat, which inadvertently ignited the wooden structure of the building. The burning fire engulfed the whole building and affected other buildings. In the following years, the remaining houses were abandoned and collapsed one after another. Before 2011, there was only one hall on the west side. Wei's descendants tried to repair their former residence many times, but they failed.
Opening to the outside world
Three years of renovation and opening to the outside world
It was not until 2011 that Baohe district and municipal cultural management departments prepared to rebuild Wei Lihuang's former residence. Although most of the buildings had been damaged, the foundation of that year was revealed in the process of investigation. In addition to the memories of Wei's descendants in the village, the reconstruction engineers basically restored Wei Lihuang's former residence. However, due to the time-consuming wood carving and other projects, the project took three years. Looking at the renovated house, Wei daoxun told reporters that after the renovation, it is basically the same as the original house.
It is understood that the maintenance project of Wei Lihuang's former residence includes Wei Lihuang's former residence here, song's ancestral hall and Wu's turret not far away, with a total investment of about 7 million yuan. Before that, Wei Lihuang's descendants also came to Hefei and donated many important relics such as cigarette holders and badges that Wei Lihuang used before he died. In the near future, these relics will appear in the renovated former residence of Wei Lihuang.
