Dongshan Grottoes

It is said that in ancient times, the scale of Dongshan Grottoes was larger than that of Xishan grottoes. There was a saying that "one mountain in the west is better than one bay in the East". However, the prosperity of the past has long gone, and the present Dongshan is in complete decline. Walking around the Dongshan Grottoes is like training to climb the mountain. It's hard to see a shaped statue after climbing a long mountain road. The caves on the cliff of Dongshan mountain are all the niches of the Tang Dynasty. There are 20 large and medium-sized caves, which are not as numerous as those in Xishan Mountain, but they are also exquisite.

Kanjing temple is the largest cave in the east mountain of Longmen. 29 Buddhist monks are well preserved. Siyan cave Siyan cave is a medium-sized cave in the prosperous Tang Dynasty. At the top of the cave is a lotus caisson surrounded by four flying geese. The strange thing is that the legs of the four geese are very slender, similar to crane legs. The name of the four geese cave comes from this. In the Buddhist Scripture, five hundred geese were used to describe the story of five hundred Arhats. The carving of four wild geese here may be an allegorical way to compare arhat with wild geese. This is the only place in the Longmen Grottoes.
