FANGBIAN Great Wall

Yangbian Great Wall (Miaogong Great Wall) is the most well preserved section of the Great Wall with the highest construction quality and specifications in Huailai County. It is located in the east of Miaogong and the west of Hengling, with a total length of about 3000 meters. The walls are made of regular large stones.

On October 7, 2019, in the list of the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units, the sample section of the Great Wall was incorporated into the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units, the Great Wall.

Development history

According to textual research: when the Great Wall was built in Ming Dynasty, this section of the Great Wall was used as a model for people in charge of the construction of the Great Wall to visit and sample. Therefore, this section of the Great Wall is a pilot and typical example of the construction of the Great Wall in Ming Dynasty. It is worthy of the name to say that it is a "model project" for the construction of the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty. Because Miaogong Great Wall has complete specifications, high quality and solid construction. According to records, Xu Da, the great general of the founding of the Ming Dynasty, came up with a way to build the Juyongguan Great Wall. In order to ensure the quality of the project, he first selected some dangerous and important areas to build the "model" of the Great Wall, so as to demarcate the quality and specifications of the Great Wall (there is also a saying that Qi Jiguang and Qi Jizu built this section of the long city). Finally, the Miaogong Great Wall, a masterpiece of the Ming Great Wall, was built in Miaogong area.

Main attractions

Miaogong Great Wall is made of neat stone strips. The base of the city is 5.5 meters wide, the top is about 4 meters wide, and the height is between 4 and 8 meters. This section of the Great Wall stretches for 3 kilometers, and there are many scientific supporting facilities. The walls are built with stone eaves to drain water. In addition, there are drain holes to drain rainwater. There is a gate hole every 200 meters inside the Great Wall, and there are stone steps on the city for soldiers to go up and down the wall. The city wall is wide and can accommodate four horses or eight people side by side. There are parapets outside and crenels inside. There are enemy towers or wall platforms every 300 meters.

The inspection system for the quality of the sample Great Wall is also very strict. It is said that after the repair, the inspectors have to shoot arrows at the wall. If there is no looseness or peeling, they can pass. The preservation of this section of the Great Wall is much more complete than that of other parts of China, which has something to do with its engineering quality.

On the mountains of Huailai, there are lots of crabapple trees planted all over the mountains. Every spring, the sea of flowers is like clouds, dotted with the remote small mountain villages, and the ancient Great Wall becomes interesting, forming a beautiful picture!
