brief introduction
The station is located in shiweitang Road, Fangcun, Liwan District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It was built in 1901. It is now a third-class station, the starting point of Guangsan railway, 49 km away from Sanshui west station. The station now does not handle passenger transport business, only for a small amount of ordinary goods issued, dumping business. Do not handle the business of dangerous goods and first-class oxidants.
history
At the initial stage of construction, the station only provides passenger transport, not cargo consignment. As there is no bridge between shiweitang and the urban area, passengers can only walk directly into the wharf and ferry across the river along the shelter of the station. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, in order to prevent the Japanese army from using the railway, the workers demolished the double track from shiweitang station to Foshan station overnight; the whole track from Foshan station to Sanshui station was demolished, and it was laid again after the war. In September 1946, the whole line was opened to traffic. During the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, shiweitang station also carried out the struggle of protecting factories and roads. Some workers also removed the machinery of the river crossing ships to prevent the Kuomintang troops from fleeing.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Guangsan railway has become the only land channel connecting Guangzhou and Foshan, and the passenger service of shiweitang station has become increasingly developed. During the Spring Festival, there are up to 44 trains to and from each day. When the passenger flow is the highest, there are nearly 80000 passengers in one day. The opening hours of the station are from the first train at 5:30 a.m. to the last train at 9:30 p.m. From 1955, shiweitang station began to operate freight. In 1960, the Pearl River Bridge, a dual-purpose highway and railway bridge, was completed and opened to traffic. The starting point of Guangsan railway was extended to Dashatou railway station, while shiweitang station was gradually transformed from a main railway passenger station to a freight station. In March 1992, the station stopped handling passenger transport business.
present situation
At present, shiweitang station still retains the freight business, with an average of 380 cars per day and a record of 600 cars per day, and an average of 100 cars per day and a record of 140 cars per day, which is the main freight station of Guangzhou Railway Group.
The existing shiweitang station has been reconstructed many times, many old buildings no longer exist, and the landmark steam locomotive water tower was removed in 2002. The bronze statue of Xia Zhongmin, the director of Guangsan Railway Bureau who was killed by Chen Jiongming, ordered by Sun Yat Sen to be built in Shiwei square has also been destroyed. There are only a few hundred year old buildings left in the station: the 80 meter long platform with steel frame fish bone ceiling on the top, the railway track with switch signal lights and terminal warning signs, the residence of the director of the station built in 1922 and the "octagonal building" of Guangsan railway villa.
At the same time, shiweitang station has become a place for photography lovers in Guangzhou. As a place with nostalgic style, almost every month, film factories and TV crew come to the station for shooting.
