Construction process
Brief introduction of the project
The Potala Palace Plaza is one of the 62 projects determined by the third central working Forum on Tibet.
The construction of the square was started on October 8, 1994, and was basically completed on July 15, 1995. It passed the acceptance on August 25, 1995.
Expansion project
In 2005, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of Tibet Autonomous Region, the Potala Palace Square was rebuilt and expanded. At that time, the reconstruction and expansion project of the square was a key project in Daqing, with a total investment of about 150 million yuan. It is divided into three parts: the central square, the renovation of the eastern Lake area, the restoration of the water system in the western area and greening. In order to remove some unreasonable buildings in the Potala Palace Square, some units, departments and individual businesses such as the song and dance troupe and the Federation of trade unions of the autonomous region were relocated, which increased the original area of the square by more than 30000 square meters.
Partial maintenance
It is understood that in order to maintain the original appearance of various cultural relics and scenic spots, in line with the principle of repairing the old as before, the dazalugong memorial monument was not relocated, but the granite around it was paved and the cracks in the external wall were partially repaired. In addition, the national flag platform was rebuilt, and the White Tower Square was specially built around the white tower to highlight the beauty of the white tower. Chalalupu temple is also more eye-catching, which is far from the majestic Potala Palace.
Add highlights
At the same time, many highlights have been added to the new square. The water system of the new square is diverted from longwangtan to the eastern Lake area, and then to the western water system through the clear water pipeline, and then to the artificial lake of Panchen house. In this way, the whole water system forms a good active circulation system. In addition, the north wall of the party and government compound in the south of the new square has become a relief wall. Relief by the Xi'an Academy of fine arts design, a total of 13. The main relief in the middle is 90 meters long. The relief mainly shows the past and present scenes of Tibet. After completion, the cultural atmosphere of the whole square will become more intense. The whole reconstruction and expansion project was completed before Daqing.
Square appearance
The Potala Palace Square is 600 meters long from east to west and 400 meters wide from north to south. The total area of the road square is 18000 square meters, which can accommodate 40000 people to hold large-scale gatherings. From the overall layout, the square is flat and open, with the Tibetan working people's Cultural Palace in the South and the Potala Palace in the north.
The Potala Palace Square is surrounded by a library, a children's paradise, a song and dance hall and an open-air market. It is the center of Lhasa's tourism, cultural and entertainment activities.
In front of the square, the Qing Dynasty "imperial tablet for pacifying Tibet" and "Shiquan tablet for recording meritorious deeds", which were originally built in Zongjiao Lukang Park, add to the charm of the ancient city. In 1998, 2000 square pigeons were introduced from Shanghai, which added some flexibility to the square.
At the south end of the Potala Palace Square, there is a music fountain. People enjoy the ever-changing dance of the music fountain leisurely. From here to there, people hear moving songs such as "the way to heaven" and "get on the train to Lhasa". Potala Palace Square ushered in another lively and charming night.
To the south of the square stands the monument to the peaceful liberation of Tibet. The monument, which was built in 2001, is 350 meters away from the majestic Potala Palace in the north with mountains and trees in the south. Its main body is gray white, with a total height of 37 meters. Five gold belts are set at the top of the inscription on the south side of the monument to represent the 50th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet. The shape of the monument is an abstract Mount Qomolangma, which shows the towering momentum of the monument and the eternity of being with heaven and earth.
The Potala Palace Square is a window for Tibet to show its achievements in reform, opening up, development and stability to the world. It is also a symbol of the great unity of the Chinese nation. It fully embodies the Chinese party and state's concern for Tibet's social progress and development, the party's and government's policy of freedom of religious belief and the protection of historical and cultural sites.
