Zhangzuolin villa is located in the core area of the North Hospital of Xingcheng railway sanatorium. It is a small building complex integrating the Oriental pattern and Western European charm. It is small and exquisite with exquisite workmanship. The villa was built in 1920s, with a total construction area of more than 2000 square meters and an area of more than 5000 square meters. It is a small building complex facing south and back to north, built around a big hot spring. There are three levels of courtyard: entrance hall, front hall and back hall.

Zhang zuolin had never lived in the villa because he had been busy with the war. Only on the day when the villa broke ground, his fifth aunt came to Xingcheng and went around the villa. After the completion of the villa, general Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Yidi came here for a rest.

Zhangzuolin villa is located in the North Hospital of railway sanatorium, 2km southeast of Xingcheng ancient city, Liaoning Province. In 1927, with the approval of Chang yinhuai, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of communications of the Republic of China under the leadership of Zhang zuolin, and under the supervision of Chang yinhuai, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of communications of the Republic of China, the railway bathhouse hotel was built in Xingcheng hot spring.

The whole bath house covers an area of 50000 square meters, which is planned by Jingfeng railway and undertaken by Beining Railway Bureau. After receiving the task, Beining Railway Bureau started construction in October 1927. First of all, it built a high-grade villa style bathhouse with an area of 5000 square meters and a construction area of 2000 square meters. At that time, Zhang zuolin was the head of state of the Republic of China and the king of Northeast China who ruled the three eastern provinces. Therefore, people called this high-grade villa style bathhouse approved by the Ministry of communications Zhang zuolin villa.

It has a three-story courtyard with entrance hall, front hall and back hall. The back hall is a two-story attic with an outer corridor connecting the East and West chambers. Although the scale of the building is not grand, it is exquisite in workmanship, reasonable in layout and elegant in combination with the eastern and Western architectural styles.

Transformation and upgrading

The main building of the villa is centered on the ancient hot spring well excavated in the Tang Dynasty, which is the largest one in Xingcheng hot springs. It has a three-story courtyard with an entrance hall, a front hall and a back hall. The total construction area is more than 2000 square meters, covering an area of more than 5000 square meters. Although the scale is not grand, it has exquisite workmanship, reasonable layout, and the combination of eastern and Western architectural styles, which is quiet and unique.

Since March 2015, after 28 months of preparation, the scenic spot has made full use of the original red tourism resources, high starting point design and high standard planning. In addition to preserving and repairing the original cultural relics, it has also added new tourism projects around the historical events, including the "huanggutun incident" bombed special train guard tail car, wax statue of Zhang zuolin, bronze statue of Zhang Xueliang and Zhao Yidi, Bodhi Garden and hot spring Gujing, etc.

In addition, in accordance with the standard of 3A scenic spot, the investment in infrastructure, service facilities and environmental facilities has been increased, which has effectively improved the historical massiness and cultural connotation of the scenic spot.

Tourist attractions

In the "huanggutun incident" in 1928, Zhang zuolin's special train was bombed by the Japanese Kwantung Army. The passenger cars on display in the hot spring villa scenic spot were the guard tail cars of Zhang zuolin's special train, which were made by Japan's namman Railway Co., Ltd. in 1927. There are pictures and images related to the "huanggutun incident" in the carriage. Through the display of the carriage and historical materials, we can further understand the history of Japanese fascist invasion of China, so as to inspire the world not to forget national humiliation, revitalize China, and forge ahead for national rejuvenation.

In addition to the rear guard car of the special train bombed in the "huanggutun incident", there are also Millennium bodhi tree, lianxinhuai tree, secretary room, atrium, study, Zhang Xueliang's and Zhao Yidi's bedroom, hot spring ancient well and other scenic spots.

The traffic of the scenic spot is convenient. The city's first bus tourism line, which opened on June 1, is on the right way, and Xingcheng No.1 bus can also go directly. The scenic spot is actively applying for the youth patriotism education base in Liaoning Province, striving to build a well-known red tourist attraction in the province.

Related history

At the beginning of the construction, Mrs. Tai Shou, the fifth aunt of Zhang zuolin, went to Nanhai woniu temple to deliver plaques and came to the construction site. Nanhai woniu temple is located on the seaside woniu mountain, 9km southwest of the city. It is said that after the completion of the villa, general Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Ti came here to have a rest and planted two tiger bark pines. As of 2017, there is still one left. Although Zhang zuolin was killed in the war, he never came to the villa. But its historical significance, geographical location and architectural art style are still very valuable. When Japan invaded China, it forcibly occupied this area and set up "Daiwa Hotel", which was called hospitality, convalescence and accommodation. It was actually a Japanese secret service. After the surrender of Japan, the Kuomintang troops were stationed in the hospital for the wounded.

After the liberation of Northeast China in 1948, the villa was accepted by the Northeast Railway headquarters and handed over to Jinzhou Railway Bureau in 1949, becoming part of the first sanatorium for Northeast Railway workers. After many repairs, it was opened to the world. In August 1984, it was listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit.

On May 5, 2016, Mr. Zhang Juxin, the eldest grandson of General Zhang Xueliang and Ms. Zhao Yidi, a Chinese American, made a special trip home to visit Zhang zuolin's villa and recall the historical traces of his grandfather and grandmother's life in those years, leaving behind a "lasting legacy". In April 2017, it was approved as a national 3A scenic spot by the Municipal Tourism Commission
