The former site of the 129th division headquarters of the Eighth Route Army is located in Shexian County, Handan, Hebei Province. Site distribution
The former site of the headquarters is composed of three adjacent farmhouse quadrangles, which are built according to the situation and are in a good arrangement. Surrounding buildings
In the cave of Shimen village, 16 kilometers west of the county seat, there is the former cemetery of martyrs of Anti Japanese war in Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan. In May 1942, general Zuoquan, deputy chief of staff of the Eighth Route Army, died and was buried here, also known as Zuoquan tomb and the former site of Xida arms factory.

Historical evolution
In 1940, Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping led the 129th division of the Eighth Route Army into Taihang mountain area, opened up and founded the Anti Japanese base area of Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong and Henan. The headquarters of 129th division moved to Chian village at the end of December, and its headquarters was located on the hillside in the middle of the village. In December 1945, the headquarters moved to Wu'an. The 129th division lived here for five years. Revolutionary cultural relics and relevant materials reflecting the history of civil military struggle at that time are displayed in the north, East and South rooms of the headquarters compound.

In 1995, on the occasion of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Liu Huaqing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, made a special trip back to visit the former site of the headquarters of the 129th division, where he once worked and lived, and wrote "don't forget the 129th division, inspire patriotism" in writing, which he presented to the people of Shexian county. In November 1996, the former site of the headquarters was announced by the State Council as a national key cultural relics protection unit; in June 1997, the former site of the headquarters was listed by the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee as one of China's 100 patriotic education demonstration bases.
