Liede Bridge

Liede Bridge is a river crossing channel connecting Tianhe District and Haizhu District in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China. It is located on the north channel of the Pearl River. It is a part of Liede Avenue in the Pearl River New Town area in the center of Guangzhou and a north extension of Xinguang expressway.

Liede Bridge was planned in October 2002;

Construction started in June 2005;

The cable tower was capped in March 2008;

It was completed and opened to traffic on July 30, 2009.

Liede Bridge starts from Tianhe East Road in the north, crosses the Pearl River front channel in Guangzhou, and ends at Jianghai Avenue in the south. The total length of the line is 4.3 km, and the total length of the main bridge is 480 M;

Construction process

In October 2002, in order to alleviate the traffic congestion of Guangzhou Bridge, Guangzhou municipal government planned to build Liede Bridge between Guangzhou Bridge and South China bridge.

In March 2003, Liede Bridge was incorporated into the second phase project of Xinguang expressway.

In September 2004, Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of land, resources and housing said that Liede Bridge would be built to solve the traffic problem of the Pearl River new town.

In April 2005, Liede Bridge was designed as "single tower self anchored suspension bridge" and "half through tied arch bridge";

In June of the same year, construction of Liede Bridge started;

In September of the same year, Liede Bridge decided to adopt the design scheme of suspension bridge.

In August 2006, Liede Bridge was built to Liede village.

In February 2007, Liede Bridge entered the underwater construction stage;

In October of the same year, Liede Bridge landed in Zhujiang New Town.

In March 2008, the cable tower of Liede Bridge was capped.

On July 30, 2009, the main bridge of Liede Bridge was opened to traffic;

In August of the same year, the first section of Liede Bridge system project was opened to traffic.

In September 2010, each node project of north extension line of Liede Bridge was completed and opened to traffic.

Bridge location

Liede Bridge is located between Tianhe District and Haizhu District of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China. The main bridge longitudinally spans the channel in front of the north main stream of the Pearl River. It is 2km away from the upstream Guangzhou Bridge in the West and 1.8km away from the downstream south China Bridge in the East.

As of September 2018, the route passing through Liede Bridge is Liede Avenue (north extension of Xinguang Expressway), starting from Tianhe East Road in the north and Jianghai Avenue in the south, and successively crossing Huangpu Avenue, Jinsui Road, Huacheng Avenue, Linjiang Avenue, Yuejiang West Road, Shuangta road and Xingang Road (Xingang middle Road).

Design concept

Design features

The artistic conception of the shape of the cable tower of Liede Bridge is "the Pearl River's shell, nurturing the Pearl". The bridge tower stands on the Pearl River like a huge shell. As of September 2018, Liede Bridge has a total length of 4.3 km; the main bridge has a total length of 480 m, with an asymmetric span arrangement of "(47 + 219 + 167 + 47) m; the main beam is set in a vertical curve with a radius of 9.8 km; the two-way longitudinal slope of 2.5% is adopted for the carriageway of the bridge deck, and the transverse slope of 1.5% is adopted for the sidewalk. The appearance of the pylon is connected by two shell shaped arc-shaped shells, with a transverse width of 56 meters and a longitudinal width of 9.16 meters. The transverse and internal and external contours of the pylon are formed by elliptical combination with holes at the top. The main structure of the cable tower is 103 meters high, the top decoration is 25 meters high, and the tower column section is a single box single room prestressed concrete structure; the top beam is 10 meters high, which is a single box double room prestressed concrete structure with shuttle section, large middle and small two ends; two main cables and 28 steel cables are arranged in an asymmetric space, and the main span is 213.8 meters; the height of the 9 # pier is 14.35 meters, and its abutment is 28 meters long, 8.5 meters wide It is 3 meters high and designed to be able to sail ships with a full load of 1000 tons.

Since its opening in July 2009, Liede Bridge has not set up any vehicle toll items, nor has it been included in the annual vehicle toll system of urban road and Bridge tunnels in Guangzhou.

Technical problems

Liede Bridge is one of the longest single tower double cable plane self anchored suspension bridges in China. The central tower needs to first "lift" two parallel long steel cables, and both ends are "anchored" on both sides of the bridge.
