Yunnan Provincial Library
Yunnan Provincial Library, located in Wuhua District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, is a "first-class library" in Yunnan Province and a national ancient book restoration center. It was selected as one of the first batch of national key ancient book protection units in 2008.
In 1909, the first year of Xuantong of Qing Dynasty, Yunnan provincial library was established. In 1931, it was changed into Kunhua Library of Yunnan Province. In 1948, Kunhua library and Zhizhou library were merged and named Kunhua Library of Yunnan Province. In 1953, it was named Yunnan Provincial Library. In 2004, Yunnan provincial library was officially opened.
According to the information on the library's official website in November 2018, Yunnan Provincial Library has a building area of 32600 square meters, 18 reading rooms, 14 departments and 199 staff. By the end of June 2017, the library had collected 3.39 million copies of ordinary literature and 5.02 million copies of electronic literature, including 595600 copies of ancient books and 80000 copies of local ethnic literature, and 130 ancient books were included in the national precious ancient books list.
Historical evolution
In 1909, Yunnan provincial library was founded.
On July 20, the third year of Xuantong in Qing Dynasty, Yunnan museum was established in Yunnan library. Since then, Yunnan library has been renamed Yunnan Book Museum.
In April 1912, the Yunnan military government ordered the Yunnan library museum to move from the site of Jingzheng Academy in the northwest corner of Cuihu Park to the old grain Department of Yunnan in the Qing Dynasty. Yunnan Book Museum moved to Jingxing street.
In 1931, Yunnan library changed its name to "Yunnan Provincial Kunhua library" according to the two landmark names of "kunhai" (Dianchi Lake) and "Huashan" (Wuhuashan mountain), and its site remained unchanged.
In the 27th year of the Republic of China (September 28, 1938), the aircraft of the Japanese aggressors bombed Kunming for the first time. After that, the library was also affected by the repeated bombing by Japanese planes. However, the Kunhua Library of Yunnan Province is still open in the war.
In the 29th year of the Republic of China (September 1940), after the "Yunnan Provincial Kunming library" was completed, Long Yun appointed the director of the Provincial Department of education, and Gong Zizhi also served as the director of the library. The library was later merged with the "Yunnan Provincial Kunhua library" to become the predecessor of today's Yunnan Provincial Library.
In 1948, the Yunnan provincial government decided to merge the provincial Kunhua library and the provincial lizhizhou Library (the former provincial Kunming Library) into the provincial lizhizhou library, and renamed the provincial Kunhua library as Cuihu branch of the provincial lizhizhou library.
In 1950, Zhizhou library and Minglun society library were merged and renamed Kunming people's library.
In 1951, it was renamed Yunnan People's library.
In 1953, it was renamed Yunnan Provincial Library.
On April 16, 1998, the foundation laying ceremony of the new library construction project of Yunnan Provincial Library began.
In January 2004, the library became the Yunnan branch of China Digital Library.
In October 2006, Yunnan Provincial Library set up the sharing project Yunnan Provincial sub center office.

As of December 2017, there are 3441471 volumes (pieces) of literature in Yunnan Provincial Library, including 2079122 volumes (pieces) of ordinary literature, 596164 volumes (pieces) of ancient books, and 130 ancient books have been included in the national precious ancient books list; 583046 volumes (pieces) of periodical literature; 44482 pieces of audio-visual literature; 1245 pieces of microfabrication; 1640396 volumes of e-books; 17 digital resources.
Collection quality
According to the information on the library's official website in November 2018, Yunnan Provincial Library has collected more than 600000 volumes of local literature, ancient books and ethnic literature with the most distinctive features, including the self engraved version of Xueshan gengzi manuscript and Xueshan Shiyin by Mu Gong, a famous scholar in Lijiang during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, the manuscript of Qian's genealogy by Qian Nanyuan in Kunming during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and the engraved version of heiyanjing Zhi during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty 》Yunnan Local Chronicles and Yunnan materia medica in the period of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty, the earliest newspaper in Yunnan in 1903, Dongba Scripture of Naxi, Beiye Scripture of Dai, Nanzhao preparation of Bai, and documents in 17 minority languages, including Yi language and Hani Language.

According to the information on the library's official website in November 2018, Yunnan Provincial Library has collected more than 410000 ancient books, more than 1600 rare books, more than 28000 rare books, 369 kinds of Chinese rare books, more than 10000 books and 344 kinds of local chronicles, more than 5500 books, among which 126 ancient books have been included in the national precious ancient books list. Precious documents include the revised editions of Nanqi Shu, Beiqi Shu and ZhouShu in Song Dynasty, the edited edition of eguojin tuocui in Yuan Dynasty, the engraved edition of Hongwu Zhengyun, memorials of famous ministers in past dynasties, the unified annals of Ming Dynasty, the complete works of Ouyang Wenzhong Gong, the cooperation of Su Changgong and the copy of Han Wengong, etc.
