Before the merger
In 1958, according to the instructions of the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Jiangxi provincial Party committee, the Ji'an prefectural committee of the Communist Party of China formulated the preliminary plan for the establishment of Ji'an Institute of technology, Ji'an agricultural college, Ji'an Medical College and Ji'an normal college, and set up Ji'an Institute of technology, Ji'an agricultural college, Ji'an Medical College and Ji'an normal college in Ji'an city.
This year, the four colleges enrolled 650 students in the first batch. Among them, the Institute of technology has three departments of mechanical and electrical engineering, chemical engineering and metallurgy with 120 students and 40 students in each department; the agricultural college has four departments of crop cultivation, soil and fertilizer, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine and garden art with 240 students and 60 students in each department; the medical college has rural medical department with 50 students; the normal college has three departments of literature and history, mathematics and biochemistry with a total of 6 classes and 240 students. The four colleges have two years of study experience in all subjects and officially start school on September. The Institute of technology is located in Ji'an high school (now Bailuzhou middle school), the agricultural college is located in Ji'an agricultural school (now Ji'an diesel engine factory), the normal college is located in Ji'an Normal University, and the medical college is located in the regional health and epidemic prevention station (xixiaojia lane, Ji'an City).
At the end of November 1958, the four colleges moved to shengangshan in the south of Ji'an City at the same time; in December 1958, the prefectural Party committee decided to merge the four colleges and establish Jinggangshan University, the first comprehensive university in Ji'an.
Approved by Jiangxi Provincial People's Committee, it was officially named Jinggangshan University on July 1, 1959.
Since 1960, Jinggangshan University has added five undergraduate courses, including Chinese language and Literature Department, mathematics department, physics and chemistry department, medical department and agronomy department, on the basis of the original two-year program. The length of schooling of Jinggangshan University is four years except for medical department.
By 1961, the development of Jinggangshan University had reached its peak. There were 12 departments including chemical engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, animal husbandry and veterinary, agronomy and horticulture, water and electricity, medical treatment, Chinese, mathematics, physics, chemistry, physical education and normal physical education, with a total of 24 teaching classes.
In 1961, the Ji'an prefectural committee of the Communist Party of China decided to adjust Jinggangshan University. In that year, the Institute of technology was abolished; in 1962, the agricultural college and the medical college were abolished; in October, the normal college was changed into Ji'an normal college; in October 1963, the normal college was closed.
In January 1969, influenced by the extreme left trend of thought in the "Cultural Revolution", Jiangxi Normal University was abolished and Jinggangshan University was established with Jiangxi Normal University as the main body. Jiangxi University (liberal arts departments) and Jiangxi Institute of education were merged at the same time. Jinggangshan University is located in Nashan at the foot of Jinggangshan mountain. It was originally the location of Gongda Nashan branch.
In April 1970, Jinggangshan University enrolled the first batch of students, divided into student classes and cadre rotation classes. In April 1971, Jinggangshan University began to recruit workers, peasants and soldiers. In October 1972, Jinggangshan University was abolished and Jiangxi Normal University was resumed.
In October 1977, on the basis of the former Jinggangshan University, the Jinggangshan branch of Jiangxi Normal University was established, which is located in Ji'an Normal University. It has two brands and one set of people.
In August 1978, Jiangxi Revolutionary Committee approved the establishment of Ji'an branch of Jiangxi Medical College Based on the former Medical College of Jinggangshan University (later changed to Ji'an health school).
In 1980, Jinggangshan branch of Jiangxi Normal University was separated from Ji'an Normal University and rebuilt; in April 1982, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Jinggangshan branch of Jiangxi Normal University was named Ji'an normal college.
In 1980, Jinggangshan Medical College was renamed Ji'an branch of Jiangxi Medical College.
In March 1984, with the approval of the State Education Commission of the people's Republic of China, Ji'an industrial workers' university was established. In 1986, it was renamed Ji'an workers' University. At the same time, Ji'an industrial and traffic cadre school was established.
In April 1993, with the approval of the State Education Commission of the people's Republic of China, Ji'an branch of Jiangxi Medical College was renamed Jinggangshan Medical College, which was jointly run by the branch and the health school. The branch was under the dual leadership of the Provincial Department of health and the Jinggangshan prefectural Party committee and administrative department. In 1994, Ji'an administrative office decided that Ji'an health school was subordinate to Jinggangshan Medical College.
On March 21, 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Ji'an normal college and Ji'an Education College merged to form Jinggangshan normal college. This is the only full-time ordinary university in Ji'an district that focuses on the cultivation of middle school teachers. It is the beginning of the formal opening of undergraduate education in the district.
In April 2002, Jinggangshan vocational and technical college was established.
Jinggangshan University
On July 9, 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Jinggangshan Normal University, Jinggangshan Medical College and Jinggangshan vocational and technical college were merged to form Jinggangshan college and Jinggangshan University.
On May 18, 2004, the CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee announced the leadership of Jinggangshan University.
In August and September 2007, the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China and the people's Government of Jiangxi Province approved the renaming of Jinggangshan University.
On October 28, 2007, a grand ceremony was held for Jinggangshan University to be listed and the signing ceremony for provincial and ministry joint key support construction.
In 2010, it was determined as the national red classic art education demonstration base by the Ministry of education.
In 2011, the University became a national bachelor's degree unit to carry out the pilot work of training master's degree graduates, and a pilot University of "excellent doctor education and training plan" of the Ministry of education.
In May 2013, the school was identified as the first batch of social work professional training base of the Ministry of civil affairs.
On June 29, 2016, Jinggangshan University formed an alliance with seven universities including Xiangtan University, Guangzhou University, Guangxi University, Yan'an University, Zunyi Normal University and Hunan First Normal University to establish the "University Alliance for research on innovation and development of red tourism in old revolutionary base areas".

As of March 2019, the school has 1078 full-time teachers, including 130 professors and 374 associate professors, 286 teachers with doctor's degree and 713 teachers with master's degree. A total of 12 full-time teachers have been selected from the national (Ministry of Education) talent program and honorary titles, including 2 national "ten thousand talents plan" philosophy and social science leading talents, 1 national "ten million talents project in the new century", 2 national cultural celebrities and "four batch" talents, 1 national advanced worker, 3 special subsidies from the State Council, and 3 New Century Excellent Teachers from the Ministry of education Among them, there are 1 distinguished professor of Jinggang scholar, 22 provincial talents project, 5 provincial government special subsidies, 5 Jiangxi Poyang talent 555 project, and 1 young Jinggang Scholar Award program. In addition, our school has 8 second-class professors, and has employed Academician Wang zikun and more than 100 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad as part-time, guest or honorary professors. More than 60 teaching and research personnel have been employed as graduate tutors by more than 10 universities such as Tongji University and Nanchang University, guiding more than 150 doctoral and master's students.
More than 100 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad, including Academician Wang zikun, academician you Xiaozeng, academician Qi Zhengwu, academician Zhao Qiguo, Academician Li Jiaming and Dr. Li Changyu, have been employed as part-time, visiting or honorary professors. More than 70 teaching and research personnel have been employed by more than 10 universities such as Tongji University and Nanchang University as doctoral or master's tutors, guiding more than 110 doctoral and master's students.
