It is located at the south foot of Zutang mountain. It was built in the Liu Song period (459) of the Southern Dynasty. It was also named Youqi mountain because of Xin. It is a branch of Niushou mountain. In Tang Dynasty, the master of Dharma got his way here. Farong was the first patriarch of Southern Buddhism. Later, it was decided in this mountain, so Youqi mountain was renamed Zutang mountain. There are Furong peak, tianpanling, Gongbei peak, xifengling, Fuhu cave, Xiquan, feilaishi and other sceneries on the mountain. Along the West foot of tianpanling, you can reach Youqi temple within 1km. There is a hall in the entrance, which was built during the reign of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1862-1874). There is an ancient tree in the back of the hall, and the grotto beside the tree is the place where Buddhist monk Farong practiced and settled down. Out of the hole along the Xiling is a sea of bamboo, along the path to xifengling. The four paths are Huayan Temple built in the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty (1465-1487). In those years, there were cave pavilions, such as Furong Pavilion, Xiaoxing Pavilion, Guiyun Pavilion, cuicuofang, chengjiangtai, daguantang, and dicuixuan, which were all destroyed by war.

During the Zhenguan period (627-649) of Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty, the eminent monk Farong practiced in the cave at the northern cliff of the mountain. He got the Dharma of the fourth patriarch of Zen and founded a branch of Zen called "niutouzong", known as "the first patriarch of Southern Zen". Youqi temple is the birthplace of niutouzong, also known as the ancestral hall of Nanzong. Youqi mountain was also renamed Zutang mountain.
In the late Tang Dynasty (885-888), the temple was abandoned.

When you are in it, you will feel worried about the dust and think deeply. Li Yi, the liezu of the Southern Tang Dynasty, often visited the mountain when he was in a rush of government affairs. Li Xia, the middle Lord, also came here many times to worship the Buddha. Li Yu, the later Lord, built thousands of temples here.
During the reign of Zhiping (1064-1067) in the Southern Song Dynasty, the original name of Youqi temple was restored.
The temple was rebuilt in Ming Dynasty, also known as Zutang temple. The temple is built close to the mountain and has a large scale. From the foot of the mountain to the gate, it is a long ancient road with towering trees. Numerous leaves block out the sun, and temples and monk houses are well arranged.
Construction scale
According to the records of Jinling fanchazhi, the main halls in the ancestral temple of Ming Dynasty are Jingang hall, Tianwang hall, Buddha Hall, Qianfo hall, Guanyin hall, Huayan hall, Shuilu hall, etc. Except Guanyin hall, which has three sills, all the other halls have five couplets; there are three floors of fifteen couplets Chan hall, two floors of ten couplets Zhai hall, five couplets kitchen and one chaliao. The site of the temple covers an area of more than 240 mu, with fields and ponds of more than 500 mu. Youqi temple was also in charge of several nearby small temples in the Ming Dynasty. In front of the temple, there is a beamless hall, an ambulatory and a ferry bridge.
