Historical evolution
Guangxi has higher education, starting from the sports school founded by Governor Huang huaisen outside Wenchang gate in 1899. However, the modern universities with real significance in Guangxi started from Guangxi University.

Guangxi Provincial University (Wuzhou, 1928)
In 1925 (the fourteenth year of the Republic of China), the New Guangxi school headed by Li Zongren and Huang Shaohong unified Guangxi and decided to set up Guangxi University in order to cultivate talents in Guangxi.
In the winter of 1927, Huang Shaohong, chairman of Guangxi Province, invited Ma Junwu, a doctor of engineering studying in Germany, a native of Guangxi Province, to return to Guangxi to organize Guangxi University, and formally established the Preparatory Committee of Guangxi University. Huang Shaohong himself served as the chairman.
At the beginning of 1928, the infrastructure construction of Guangxi University began, which lasted for half a year. The local government held a grand opening ceremony, and Ma Junwu was employed as the first president. At the beginning of taking office, he put forward the tenet of "rejuvenating China and developing Guangxi" to Guangxi University. At that time, there were very few senior high school graduates in Guangxi, so the first time Guangxi university enrolled preparatory students. Although he is a preparatory course, Ma Junwu has hired 13 professors from Shanghai and other places to teach in the University. The school is located in butterfly mountain, Hexi District, Wuzhou City, which is the first of higher education in Guangxi.
In June 1929, the school was closed because of the Guangdong Guangxi war.
In May 1931, Guangxi decided to resume Guangxi University and began to recruit students in July of the same year.

National Guangxi University (Guilin, 1939)
In 1936, due to the prediction of the outbreak of the comprehensive anti Japanese War, the Guangxi provincial government moved Guangxi University from Wuzhou Dieshan to Guilin Yanshan, and established the Provincial Normal College as the College of grammar and law of Guangxi University. Guangxi University expanded from three colleges of science, engineering and agriculture to five colleges of science, engineering, agriculture, medicine and grammar. The scale and discipline connotation of the college were greatly expanded. Two years after the beginning of the comprehensive anti Japanese War, many young people from other provinces went into exile in Guilin. The source of students and teachers of Guangxi University expanded rapidly. Its original provincial nature could not accommodate the development of Guangxi University.
In 1937, Guangxi military medical school, the predecessor of Guangxi Medical University, was established.
On August 22, 1939, the 420th session of the executive yuan of the national government passed a resolution to change the provincial Guangxi University into the national Guangxi University from the second semester of this year. On September 5, the Ministry of Education issued the "measures for changing Guangxi provincial university into the national Guangxi University", and appointed Ma Junwu as the president of the national Guangxi University. On October 10, Guangxi University held a national and welcoming ceremony for President Ma Leaders of Guangxi military administration and education administration such as Ren, Huang xuchu and Lei Peihong attended the meeting.
On August 1, 1942, Guangxi provincial Guilin Normal University was upgraded to national Guilin Normal University. During the Anti Japanese War, there were 38 national universities and colleges. Guangxi University and Guilin Normal University were among them.
In the summer of 1944, the Japanese invaders invaded the south, Changsha and Hengyang were occupied one after another, Guangxi was in urgent need, and Xida had a holiday to evacuate in advance. In September, the school moved to Rongxian. In November, Liuzhou entered a state of war, and the school moved to Rongjiang, Guizhou.
In September 1945, Japanese fascists surrendered, and Guangxi University moved back to Guangxi from Rongjiang, Guizhou Province, temporarily living in Zhegu River, Liuzhou.
In the spring of 1946, the students launched the "back to Wu movement" and moved back to Wuzhou butterfly mountain. In September, he moved back to Guilin, and the school headquarters was located in jiangjunqiao. After returning to Guilin, Guangxi University ran schools in jiangjunqiao central radio equipment factory and Liangfeng, with a campus area of more than 5000 mu. By 1948, there were 261 staff and more than 2000 students.
On March 16, 1950, the people's Government of Guangxi Province made a decision in February to merge the national Nanning Normal University into Guangxi University. A total of 358 teachers and students from the seven departments of education, Chinese, history and geography, English, mathematics, physics and chemistry, and natural history of Nanning Normal University moved from Nanning to Guilin, merged into Guangxi University, and established the normal college of Guangxi University.
In March 1951, the people's Government of Guangxi Province, in accordance with the spirit of the national higher education conference held by the central Ministry of education and with the approval of the Central South Bureau of the Communist Party of China, decided to merge the undergraduate part of Guangxi Xijiang University into Guangxi University.
In early 1952, Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the name of Guangxi University. On October 23 of the same year, the two departments of Agronomy and forestry of Guangxi Agricultural University established Guangxi Agricultural University independently.
In 1953, the Ministry of higher education of the Central People's government decided to abolish Guangxi University and adjust all its faculties and departments. During the adjustment of colleges and departments, Guangxi University was suspended, and teachers and students, equipment and books and materials were transferred to 19 universities in central and South China.
On October 17, 1953, a total of 53 teachers and 258 normal college students from the departments of Chinese, foreign languages, history and geography, mathematics, physics, chemistry and education in the College of culture and education and the College of science of Guangxi University were incorporated into Guangxi Normal University (now Guangxi Normal University).
