Jinsha River originates from the main peak of Tanggula Mountain on the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and belongs to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. It is called Tongtian River from Zhimen of Qinghai Province, and Jinsha River from Zhimen to Minjiang Estuary of Yibin, Sichuan Province. The total length of Jinsha River is 2316 km. Longjie ferry is located in the middle of Jinsha River, with an altitude of 850 m. It is named after Longjie village by the river.

It originally belonged to Huanzhou township of Wuding county. In 1955, it was transferred from Wuding county to Yuanmou County and set up Jiangbian district.
