Yuxi Normal University is located in Yuxi City, the famous "China's top ten leisure and livable ecological city" in Central Yunnan. It is a full-time regular undergraduate university directly under Yunnan Province. The school was founded in 1978.

In March 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, Yuxi Normal University was established by merging with Yuxi adult education center and Yuxi normal school.

Historical evolution

Yuxi Teachers College

In April 1978, with the approval of Yunnan Provincial Revolutionary Committee, the Yuxi regional administrative office established the Yuxi Teachers' special class.

In November 1983, with the approval of Yunnan provincial government, it was rebuilt into Yuxi Teachers College.

In July 1992, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, it was renamed Yuxi Teachers College.

In March 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, Yuxi Normal College was established on the basis of the merger of Yuxi Normal College, Yuxi Normal School and Yuxi adult education and Training Center (Educational Resources).

 

In March 2001, the school established the Department of tourism and economic management by merging the former Department of economic management, the Department of tourism and the economic teaching and research group of adult education center.

 

In 2007, the university successfully passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education and obtained "good" results.

 

In May 2008, the Department of tourism and economic management was officially renamed business school.

 

In December 2012, the school of music was established.

 

In May 2016, the school of physical and electronic engineering and the school of mathematics and information technology were established through the integration of the school of information engineering and the school of science.

 

In 2019, the university will become a demonstration college of Applied Undergraduate Talents Training in Yunnan Province.
