Located in Yulin Town, 60 kilometers southwest of Ji'an City, it is surrounded by mountains on one side and water on three sides. The Yalu River flows around laohushao in the East, South and West, forming a spindle shaped mountain range. Across the river is Weiyuan County, North Korea. On both sides of the river, sometimes there are strange peaks, strange rocks and gullies, sometimes there are long beaches and oases. The nine bend Yalu River forms a unique natural landscape here. The Sino DPRK joint venture laohushao hydropower station got its name from this, and was listed as the Yalu River border tourist area by the Ministry of water resources in 2002.

brief introduction

Laohushao hydropower station, also known as Weiyuan hydropower station (North Korea). Located in the middle reaches of the Yalu River, the boundary river between China and North Korea, 60 kilometers southwest of Ji'an City, it is the second stage of the cascade hydropower station jointly built by China and North Korea. The upstream is Yunfeng Power Plant and the downstream is Shuifeng power plant. The power station is jointly invested and owned by China and the DPRK, which is responsible for the design, construction and operation management. It was built in 1978, the first generating unit in 1986 and completed in 1991

The installed capacity of the unit is 65000 kW, the annual power generation is 1.2 billion kwh, and the annual utilization is 3000 hours.

Hydrological parameters

The drainage area above the dam site of Weiyuan hydropower station is 31602 square kilometers. The average annual discharge of the dam site is 407 m3 / s. The design flood standard is once in 500 years with a discharge of 30500 m3 / s. The check flood standard is once in 5000 years, and the discharge is 40200 m3 / s. The normal water level of the reservoir is 164M, the dead water level is 150m, the design water level is 167m and the check water level is 170m. The total capacity of the reservoir is 626 million cubic meters. The design head of the power station is 39m, the maximum head is 42m and the minimum head is 25m.

Geological characteristics

The stratum in the reservoir area is mainly composed of hard granite and metamorphic rocks with weak water permeability. Most of the bedrock on both banks is exposed, the overburden is not thick, and the slope is generally stable.

Dam and power station parameters

The dam is a concrete gravity dam with a crest elevation of 171m, a crest length of 627m and a maximum height of 55m. The axis of the dam is a curve, and the middle part is an overflow dam. Both banks are non Overflow Dams. The overflow dam is equipped with 18 open overflow holes. The crest elevation of overflow weir is 151m, which is controlled by radial gate. The gate size is 12m × 13m.

The powerhouse behind the dam is located on the North Korean side of the left bank. Its main buildings are: water inlet, penstock, main powerhouse, tailrace, etc. The bottom elevation of the water intake is 133m, with quick gate and maintenance gate. The entrance of the penstock is a 7m × 7m square section, and then it changes into a round pipe with a diameter of 6.34m and a length of 32.75m. Single machine and single pipe arrangement is adopted. The size of the main power house is 133.5M × 20m × 41m (length × width × height), the unit spacing is 22m, and the installation yard is 30m long. Six Francis turbine generator units with hl240 and 65000 kW capacity are installed. The tailrace is equipped with a plane gate with the size of 6m × 6.5m.

The underground substation is located in the hill on the left bank. The main transformer tunnel is 145m high, 14m wide, 12m high and 22.5m long. Six 75000 kW · a three-phase transformers are respectively set in a separate small room.

The port authorities here include the tiger sentry border inspection station and the joint inspection agency of the customs and the entry-exit inspection and Quarantine Bureau, which are responsible for the registration, inspection and acceptance of entry-exit personnel and goods.
