Jilin Provincial Museum, formerly known as Jilin Provincial Museum, was built in 1951 and moved to Changchun with the provincial government in 1954. On April 28, 2016, the new museum of Jilin Provincial Museum was opened. The new museum is located at No. 1666, Yongshun Road, Jingyue national high tech Industrial Development Zone, Changchun City, with a construction area of 32000 square meters. Jilin Provincial Museum is a history and Art Museum, directly under the Jilin Provincial Department of culture, is a national first-class Museum.
As of July 2016, Jilin Provincial Museum has more than 120000 pieces of cultural relics, including 295 first-class cultural relics, 3379 second-class cultural relics, 14280 third-class cultural relics and nearly 100000 other cultural relics. Among them, the cultural relics of Koguryo, Bohai, Liao and Jin Dynasties, as well as Chinese calligraphy and painting, and the cultural relics of the Northeast Anti Japanese allied forces occupy an important position in the country.
In February 2020, to pay tribute to the medical workers who are struggling in the front line of anti epidemic, the museum will implement the preferential policy of free opening to medical workers in the whole country within one year from the date of the museum's resumption of operation.
Historical evolution
In May 1951, Jilin provincial government approved the preparation of Jilin Provincial Museum, which was completed in December.
On January 27, 1952, Jilin Provincial Museum officially opened at No.12 Jiangwan Road, Jilin City.
In September 1954, Jilin Provincial Museum moved to Changchun puppet Manchu palace with the provincial government.
In 1955, the main business department of Jilin Provincial Museum moved to No. 7, Xi'an Road, Changchun.
In July 1964, he worked together with the puppet palace, with seven organizations and 112 employees.
In December 1978, the Ministry of revolutionary history was separated and Jilin provincial revolutionary museum was established. The museum is located at No. 7, Xi'an Road, Changchun City. All the Jilin provincial museums returned to the Puppet Manchurian palace.
In 1982, the Preparatory Office of the puppet Palace Museum was separated from the museum and established the puppet Palace Museum. Jilin Provincial Museum is located in Tongde hall on the east side of the puppet palace.
In 1983, the cultural relics team separated from the museum and established the Jilin Provincial Institute of cultural relics and archaeology.
In May 1987, the Ministry of natural history separated from the museum and established the Jilin Provincial Museum of natural history. Since then, the Jilin Provincial Museum has basically taken shape.
In September 2003, Jilin Provincial Museum was established on the basis of the former Jilin Provincial Museum and Jilin Provincial Museum of modern history.
On May 8, 2007, the foundation of Jilin Provincial Museum was laid, which is located in Jingyue Economic Development Zone of Changchun City.
In December 2015, Jilin Provincial Museum moved to No. 1666, Yongshun Road, Jingyue national high tech Industrial Development Zone, Changchun City.
On April 28, 2016, the new museum of Jilin Provincial Museum was opened to the public for trial operation.
In October 2018, it was rated as the national research and practice education base for primary and secondary school students.

Jilin story -- Jilin Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition
Jilin story - Jilin intangible cultural heritage exhibition hall displays 62 pieces (sets) of national folk custom collections with Jilin regional characteristics. The museum has a preface hall, forest culture exhibition area, fishing and hunting culture exhibition area, national culture exhibition area, technology culture exhibition area and other special exhibition areas. Each exhibition area uses traditional exhibition methods such as physical objects, charts, text and scene restoration, combined with modern technical means such as electronic simulation and image synthesis, to display the representative intangible cultural heritage projects in Jilin Province.
Collection of fine ceramics in Jilin Museum
The exhibition of ancient Chinese ceramics collected by Jilin Provincial Museum brings together the products of prehistoric pottery, primitive porcelain and major famous kilns in song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. "The soul of the army in the black soil - Exhibition of the history of the Northeast Anti Japanese allied forces" is an exhibition jointly launched by the Jilin Provincial Museum and the memorial hall of the Northeast Anti Japanese allied forces. The exhibition makes full use of the rich cultural relics, literature and the latest research results of the Anti Japanese Alliance to comprehensively and systematically display the glorious course and historical contribution of the Anti Japanese Alliance in Northeast China. The exhibition is divided into six parts: the fall of Northeast China, the rise of resistance against Japan to shoulder the responsibility of national salvation, the cooperation with the war of resistance against Japan, the great prestige of Kanto, the arduous challenge to the limit of human survival, the sacrifice of life and blood to create heroic songs, and the recovery of Northeast China. The history exhibition of Huangpu Military Academy, a monument of history, is divided into three parts: "years of Huangpu", "changes of military academy" and "feeling for Huangpu". The exhibition focuses on the folding fans from the late Qing Dynasty to modern times, with 34 selected paintings and calligraphy folding fans collected by the Academy. The Qing Dynasty is a prosperous period for the development of ancient Chinese costume culture, and it is the third mutation after "Hufu riding and shooting" and "open Tang costume" in costume history. On September 10, 2013, Jilin Provincial Museum and Yitong Manchu Autonomous County Museum jointly held the exhibition "the charm of ancient style -- entering the mysterious shaman world" in Jilin Provincial Museum. Shaman culture is a worldwide cultural phenomenon with a long history, mainly distributed in Northeast Asia, North America, northern Europe and other regions. Jilin Province is an important birthplace of Shaman culture, which still retains relatively complete shaman utensils and living shaman sacrificial rites. There are 89 sets of cultural relics on display in this exhibition, as well as a lot of pictures, showing the colorful and mysterious Shaman culture from five aspects of Shaman costumes, sacrifices, medical skills, puppets and masks.
