Construction process
On September 1, 2005, the construction of Minpu Bridge started.
On January 14, 2008, the hoisting and installation of the main bridge side span steel structure of Minpu Bridge was carried out.
On July 22, 2009, the main bridge structure of Minpu Bridge was closed.
On April 20, 2010, Minpu Bridge was put into operation.
Bridge location
Minpu Bridge is located in Wujing Town, Minhang District, Shanghai. It starts from Shenjiahu Expressway in the west, crosses Huangpu River Waterway in the East and ends at Pudong Shanghai Ring Expressway Interchange in the East. Puxi bridge is located in the south of Wujing Power Plant in Minhang District, and Pudong bridge is located in the farmland of Yuejin Village in Minhang District. It is 8.7 km away from Xupu Bridge in the downstream, 8.8 km away from Fengpu bridge in the upstream and 16.3 km away from Shanghai port The upper deck passes Shanghai Shenjiahu Expressway < I (Shanghai Expressway S32) < / I, and the local road on the lower deck connects Fanghe road in the west, Puxing road in the East, and upper and lower ramps are set in the east of Longwu Road.

Minpu Bridge is composed of water double deck main bridge, land Pudong bridge, Puxi approach bridge, two H-shaped bridges and their interchange ramps. The main bridge section is arranged from west to East.
Design concept
Due to the limited land resources along the Huangpu River and the limited line position of the facilities along the Huangpu River, such as bridges and tunnels, Minpu Bridge adopts the same bridge line position shared by the expressway and local roads, which not only solves the problem of Expressway Crossing the river, but also facilitates the river crossing demand of the local Minhang area. At the same time, the span of Minpu Bridge is more economical for the cable-stayed bridge Shanghai has rich experience in cable-stayed bridge construction and mature technology. Therefore, Minpu Bridge will be built into a double deck highway cable-stayed bridge with the largest span in terms of economy, practicality, safety and maturity.
Design features
The main bridge of Minpu Bridge is a double deck highway cable-stayed bridge with double pylons, double cable planes and steel truss beams. The upper layer is connected with expressways, and the lower layer is connected with local roads. In order to meet the needs of double deck, the main girder structure adopts steel truss beam; the deck adopts double deck design and inverted trapezoidal cross section layout; the main truss adopts truss type of n-shaped straight main truss and integral welded joint structure; the side span main girder adopts composite truss beam structure. The main tower adopts straight column H-shaped tower, reinforced concrete structure, and the cross section of the tower column is pentagonal to facilitate wind resistance; along the bridge direction, it is single column type with narrow upper and wide lower, and across the bridge direction, it is two cross braced frame type. The tower column is connected with the upper and lower beams to form a frame structure. At the same time, the upper and lower beams are box type prestressed concrete structure, and the tower column is reinforced concrete structure, and the concrete strength grade is C50.
Design parameters
Minpu Bridge has a total length of 3610 meters and a main bridge of 1212 meters. It adopts the span arrangement of "4 × 63 meters + 708 meters + 4 × 63 meters", with three auxiliary piers on the side span. The upper deck of the main bridge is 43.6 meters wide, the lower deck is 28 meters wide, and the longitudinal slope of the deck is 3.0%. The upper deck of the main span is on the arc vertical curve with a radius of 17000 meters, and the lower deck is on the arc vertical curve with a radius of 16991 meters. The main pylon pier adopts Φ 900mm steel pipe pile foundation, of which the main pier bearing platform in Pudong is 86.8m long, 44m wide and 7m thick, with 385 steel pipe columns 51.1m to 53.1M long; the main pier bearing platform in Puxi is 81.4m long, 44m wide and 7m thick, with 345 steel pipe piles 66.5m long. The height above the bearing platform of the main tower of the bridge is 210 meters, the width of the top of the tower is 8 meters, the elevation is 45.5 meters, the width at the top is 11 meters, and the width at the bottom of the tower is 14.5 meters; the width at the top of the cross bridge tower column is 7.0 meters, and the width at the bottom of the tower is 9.0 meters; the truss height of the main beam of the middle span is 9 meters, the length of the section is 15.1 meters, the width of the main truss is 27 meters, and the center distance between the outer chords of the upper deck is 41.5 meters; the width of the upper deck structure is 43.6 meters, and the width of the lower deck The bridge deck is 9 meters apart and the total height of the structure is 11.5 meters. The upper layer of the bridge is expressway, with two-way 8 lanes, which adopts the standard of first-class highway; the lower layer is local road, with two-way 6 lanes, which adopts the standard of second-class highway; the clearance of intersecting roads is 5m above second-class highway (including second-class highway), and the rest is 4.5m.

Lighting facilities
The upper layer of the main bridge of Minpu Bridge adopts high-efficiency and energy-saving LED street lamps with a total power of 160W and two-way stacked lamps, totally 164 street lamps are used; the lower layer of the main bridge adopts cosmopolis lighting system and is installed by ordinary lamp post.
Electronic monitoring
As of July 2014, the whole section of Minpu Bridge has been equipped with traffic monitoring equipment such as electronic police.

Fare system
In February 2000, the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) submitted the proposal of "some suggestions on the negative effects of collecting river crossing fees and resolving contradictions"; in May of the same year, the Shanghai municipal government announced to cancel the fees for river crossing tunnels and bridges, including Minpu Bridge.
Traffic matters
As of April 19, 2010, due to the special structure of the large displacement expansion joints at both ends of the main bridge of Minpu Bridge, once non motor vehicles get on the bridge, traffic accidents may occur, so pedestrians and non motor vehicles are forbidden to pass on the lower deck all day.

The construction method of the stay cable of Minpu Bridge is "first install the tower end, expand the cable on the beam, then install and anchor the anchor head at the beam end, and then pull and tension on the tower" after the installation of the main beam segment is completed. This kind of stay cable installation technology not only has sufficient time guarantee in the construction schedule, but also is reasonable in the cost.
Value significance
Minpu Bridge is the first long-span steel truss cable-stayed bridge with all welded structure in China, and also the largest span double deck cable-stayed bridge in the world at that time.
