EDSA company won the bid, Shenzhen beilinyuan landscape and Planning Design Co., Ltd. carried out the landscape design, and Rizhao Municipal Construction Committee undertook the overall transformation. The total area of the scenic spot is about 500000 square meters, which is divided into three functional areas: seaside leisure, hotel holiday service and characteristic commerce.

Lighthouse square

Rizhao lighthouse, formerly known as Shijiu lighthouse, is a symbol of Rizhao coastal port city. When Premier Li Peng visited Rizhao in 1992, he renamed the lighthouse Rizhao lighthouse. The lighthouse is 36.2 meters high, the light height is 39.9 meters, the light quality is flashing white for 8 seconds, and the range is 18 nautical miles. Its main function is to provide navigation service for ships in and out of Rizhao port. In March 2005, the lighthouse square was redecorated. The original black-and-white ordinary decoration was changed to white marble decoration, which was integrated with the color of the square. The lighthouse, like the "dinghaishen needle" born from the earth, is at the core of the square. From the west of the reef square in front of the stepped pool in the East, it looks like a giant dragon hovering over it. The towering lighthouse looks like a dragon head exploring the sea. There are colorful lamp array and ginkgo tree array on the square, forming a harmonious fan-shaped square. Looking down from the tower, the water curtain with five steps and the water lines on both sides flow happily like colorful music; the ginkgo trees and landscape lamp posts arranged in an orderly radial form are integrated with the lighthouse, which further sets off the tall and straight lighthouse, and the whole landscape appears colorful and illusory under the reflection of night light.

Guanshi square

Guanshi square, located in the middle of Lighthouse square and Guantao square, is the center of Lighthouse scenic area, covering an area of 4000 square meters. The landscape boulders on the shore and the reefs in the sea are all carved by nature. At high tide, most of the reefs are submerged by the sea. At low tide, the area of the reefs can reach 80000 square meters. The reefs are full of various shellfish and seaweed, and sometimes seagulls are flying. Sitting and lying here, you can watch the sea, listen to the waves and enjoy fishing; you can pick clams, smash oysters, catch crabs and pick up sea vegetables to fully enjoy the gift of nature. On the south side of the square is a large handicraft market in Jiangbei area. Here you can buy all kinds of shells, corals, pearls produced from the north to the Arctic Ocean and the south to the Indian Ocean, as well as wind bells specially made for Rizhao people's shells, Rizhao Green tea, dried seafood, all kinds of straw crafts and Rizhao folk farmer paintings.

Guantao square

Guantao square is a pedestrian passageway connecting Guanshi square with the world sailing competition base and wanpingkou seaside scenic area. From the sea to the shore, it looks like a huge ship sailing on the coastline. Covering an area of 15000 square meters, the square is an excellent platform for watching the sea, listening to the waves and watching the sails with the wind. The highest wave height can reach 15 meters at high tide. The wooden plank road is 550 meters long from north to South and is laid in a triangular wooden folding shape. It is made of imported Finnish antiseptic wood, which can prevent insects and seawater erosion. The wooden plank road is inlaid with numerous colored lights. On the shore at night, it is like the stars in the night sky falling on the Milky way, just like the colorful ribbon on the fairy blouse, adding infinite charm and amorous feelings to the quiet coast.

Historical evolution

In 1985, with the state investment in the construction of Rizhao Port coal terminal, the lighthouse was built as a supporting facility for the terminal service, so the lighthouse square got its name. The seashore to the east of the lighthouse is one of the few reef landforms along the coast of Rizhao City. After the tide receded, a large area of reefs emerged, making it a good place for tourists to visit.

Since the 1980s, lighthouse has become one of the most famous tourist attractions in Rizhao. Not only foreign tourists must visit lighthouse square when they come to Rizhao, but also local people regard lighthouse square as a holiday destination.

In 2004, in order to enrich the coastal tourism resources, build the brand of ecological city and improve the investment environment, the municipal Party committee and the municipal government launched the reconstruction project of Lighthouse square. Relying on a reef group, the project demolished a 150000 cubic meter oil tank farm and 100000 square meters of dilapidated buildings. The 1000 meter long wooden plank road, built along the coast, is an ideal place for tourists to watch the sea and listen to the waves.

After the reconstruction of the square, the lighthouse square, wanpingkou scenic area, Shanhaitian tourist resort and forest park have formed a new pattern of coastal tourism. These scenic spots are like four pearls, which are strung together along the north coastal road. It further enriches the sunshine leisure and tourism resources, and provides more choices for citizens and tourists.
