Shaoguan museum is located in the West Industrial Road, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province. It is a comprehensive museum based on local historical records. The new museum was completed in March 2001, covering an area of 17300 square meters. It is the most invested and largest key cultural facility of Shaoguan municipal government in recent years, and also the landmark building of Shaoguan.
Shaoguan Museum collects and displays historical relics unearthed in the city, revolutionary relics left over from the revolutionary war and other cultural relics handed down from generation to generation. At present, there are more than 5000 pieces of various collections, most of which are historical relics unearthed in the city. Among them, a batch of pottery models from the Eastern Han Dynasty and the two Jin Dynasties are the most precious, which truly and vividly reflect many aspects of social life at that time.
Development history
Shaoguan museum was founded in 1961, the original site of the museum is located in the city center. In 1998, Shaoguan municipal government invested more than 23 million yuan to build a new museum on the site. The new museum was completed in March 2001, covering an area of 17300 square meters. It is the most invested and largest key cultural facility of Shaoguan municipal government in recent years, and also the landmark building of Shaoguan.
The main building of the museum is a 7500 square meter four story courtyard modern building. There are 11 exhibition rooms from the first floor to the third floor, with a total area of 3188.75 square meters. In the west of the library, there are 36 offices and various functional rooms. The front wall of the museum is inlaid with two red sandstone reliefs with local characteristics. The reliefs on the left reflect the legend of "Emperor Shun ascended Shaoshi and played Shaoyue" in ancient times; the reliefs on the right reflect the life scenes of "MABA people" more than 100000 years ago. The title of Shaoguan Museum above the door wall is inscribed by Zhang Ding, a famous Chinese calligrapher and painter.

Collection
Gilded tortoise button bronze seal
This seal was unearthed from an ancient tomb of the Eastern Jin Dynasty about 1600 years ago. At the same time, a number of precious cultural relics, such as a five legged bearing plate and a washing piece, were unearthed. Archaeologists believe that these cultural relics are relatively rare in the whole northern Guangdong area, which is of great research value.
Box used by Zhu De when he passed Shaoguan
The cultural relic is rectangular with a cover; the outer layer is made of bamboo, and the inner layer is made of wood; two kinds of light and dark copper locks are set in the middle of the front, with a copper buckle on each side. During 1927-1928, when Zhu De led part of the Nanchang Uprising army to Shaoguan, he once lived in the family of Liu in dongheba, Shaoguan City. In the 1970s, Liu Xiuzhen, a resident of Donghe, Shaoguan City, donated it. In 2005, Chen denggui, bu Suiwen, Shan Xiaoying, Zou Weichu and Lu Fang of Guangdong provincial cultural relics appraisal station suggested that they should be first-class cultural relics.

It has a wide edge, a deep abdomen, and a flat bottom. It is decorated with animal face rings on both sides of the abdomen. It has Phoenix and peony patterns with plastic drawing techniques. Blue glaze is applied on the edge of the cylinder, and light yellow glaze is applied on the cylinder body. Simple and elegant, thick and generous, Shiwan flowerpot line is the early boutique.

With distinctive characteristics of the times, the products are engraved with "compatriots come quickly to buy domestic products, cheap and durable" and the full text of "Premier's will". There are four exhibitions. In the form of pictures and objects, "Shaoguan human history exhibition" introduces the ancient history of Shaoguan from MABA people to Shixia culture, and the modern revolutionary struggle history from the liberation war. The exhibition of ceramics in the collection displays the fine ceramics and some pottery unearthed in the city, aiming at promoting the excellent traditional culture of the motherland and spreading the knowledge of ceramics. "Collection of calligraphy and painting" displays some of the ancient paintings and calligraphy, works of famous modern calligraphers and painters, and some rubbings of stele inscriptions left in the city.
Shaoguan Museum has good cultural relic safety protection measures. It is equipped with advanced closed-circuit television monitoring system, carbon dioxide fire-fighting system and alarm system. It is also connected with the alarm center of the Municipal Public Security Bureau. It is one of the few qualified units in mainland cities of Guangdong Province. It can hold various temporary exhibitions.
Shaoguan museum is a kind of public welfare cultural institutions, which is responsible for the collection, protection, scientific research, exhibition, publicity and education of cultural relics, and assisting in archaeological excavation. According to the law of the people's Republic of China on the protection of cultural relics and the national measures for the administration of museums, all venues are open free of charge (except Shaoyang building).
