Hunan Normal University was founded in 1938 as the National Normal University, and later renamed Hunan Normal University and Hunan Normal University. National Teachers College
The National Normal University was founded in 1938. Its origin can be traced back to the Yuelu Academy founded by Zhu Dong, the prefect of Tanzhou in the Northern Song Dynasty in 976.
On October 27, 1938, the Ministry of education of the national government established the National Normal College in Lantian Town, Anhua County, Hunan Province. Liao Shicheng was the president of the college. Many well-known scholars gathered here, including rich scholars such as Qian Jibo, Qian Zhongshu, PI Mingju, Meng Xiancheng, Chen chuanzhang, Gao Juefu and Chu Anping. In January 1955, Changsha No.4 Middle School (now attached middle school) was changed into a middle school affiliated to Hunan Normal University.
In 1957, Changsha teachers college was merged into Hunan Normal University. The college has two departments of foreign languages and geography, with a total of 9 departments and 7 subjects.
In 1960, Hunan Normal University moved to two and a half miles west of the river in Changsha. At the same time, it donated some books and animal and plant specimens to Hunan University. The two schools were bounded by xinlaozhishan village, Quzici, lushanmen and Fenghuangshan ridge at the foot of Yuelu Mountain. The north and East of the two schools were under the jurisdiction of Hunan Normal University.
In September 1961, Hunan Institute of art and Hunan Institute of physical education were merged into Hunan Normal University, and two departments of art and physical education were set up.
In January 1962, the Chinese department and the political economy Department of Hunan University were merged into Hunan Normal University.
In 1963, the Department of biology of Hunan University was incorporated into Hunan Normal University.

Hunan Normal University

In March 2002, Hunan Medical College was merged into Hunan Normal University and established a medical college.
In 2004, the first and second affiliated hospitals of the University were established with Hunan Provincial People's Hospital and No. 163 Hospital of PLA, and Xiangdong hospital was changed into the Third Affiliated Hospital.
In November 2012, it was approved as the pilot University of the first batch of national excellent doctor education and training program and the first batch of national excellent legal talent education and training base.
In July 2013, the University became one of the first demonstration bases for the Ministry of education to study in China.
In April 2014, the school of clinical medicine of Hunan Normal University was established in Hunan Provincial People's Hospital (the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University).
