Jigong Temple
Jigong temple is a temple built to show respect for Jigong. The former Jigong temple is located on the North Bank of the old Tongyang Canal in the south gate, about 300 meters west of the old high pier, belonging to Jiahe village. The architecture of the temple is quite different from that of other temples. It has no temple features in appearance, but looks like a folk house.
history
As the saying goes, "there are many monks in Taizhou.". According to statistics, there were more than 140 temples in old Hailing city. Later generations trace back to history, rarely mention the Jigong temple outside the south gate.
Because it was built near the river, the temple gate could not be opened to the south. The south wall and the old Tongyang River are only one meter wide narrow roads for passers-by. The gate of the temple is in the southeast corner of the temple, near the river. The gate of the temple is also narrow, less than one meter wide, similar to the gate of ordinary dwellings. There is no other decoration on the top and left and right sides of the door, and the temple name is not signed.
Jigong temple was built near the river, and the foundation was raised. Because the old Tongyang river often rises every summer, the temple wall will not be damaged. After the foundation is raised, there are four or five brick steps in front of the temple gate. Standing on the steps at the gate of the temple, you can see them from the East.
scale
The main hall of Jigong temple has three rooms facing south, with an area of about 80 square meters. In the middle is a statue of Jigong Buddha, with the statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva and Maitreya Buddha on both sides. Due to the limited area, Jigong temple has no courtyard space and only one wing room. In the southwest corner of the temple, it is more than ten square meters, connecting with the temple hall on the west side. In the 1940s, the temple was still in good condition. The interior of the temple seems to have been newly painted, and the reddish brown beams and columns are still bright. The roof tiles are covered with small looking bricks. The traces of white lines outlined with lime water between the looking bricks are clearly visible. No dust net can be seen on the four walls of the temple.
legend
The old Tongyang river passes through Gaoqiao from east to west and flows westward through yuanjigong temple. On its south bank are Gaoqiao nantongjiang street and tengba West Street. On its West Bank are farmhouses and fields, belonging to Baoxu township. There is no bridge on the river, and the passengers on both sides of the river rely on a ferry. It is said that a long time ago, seven or eight people took ferries from the West Bank to the east bank. When the boat reached the middle of the river, a strong wind suddenly came up. The boat was jolted and swayed and tilted to one side. At that time, the people who crossed the river lost their voice and yelled, which was extremely dangerous, and the pole bearers were at a loss. At this time of great danger, I saw a man across the old Tongyang River, wearing old clothes, wearing an old hat, holding a palm fan, shaking the fan desperately in the direction of the boat, still reciting. In a flash, the strange wind suddenly disappeared, and the boat was stable again. Later, it was said that the fan shaker was Ji Gong, who showed up to save people's lives. In order to be grateful and commemorate Jigong living Buddha, Jigong temple was built here.
