National Zhongxing University, Xingda for short. Formerly known as the agricultural and forestry school during the Japanese rule period, it was established in 1919. In 1928, it was transferred to the Department of agriculture and forestry affiliated to Imperial University of Taipei (now National Taiwan University). In 1943, he moved to Taichung City and became a special agricultural and forestry school in Taichung. In 1945, it was changed into Taichung Agricultural College. In 1946, it was transformed into Taiwan Provincial Agricultural College. With the increase of colleges, it was upgraded to Taiwan Provincial Chung Hsing University in 1961. In 1964, night department was set up in Taipei Campus, and in 1968, night department was set up in Taichung campus and a new college of Arts was set up. In 1971, it was transformed into national Zhongxing University. In 2000, the school of law and business of National Chung Hsing University was incorporated into National Taipei University.

Taiwan's National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) was founded in 1919. It is a research-oriented public comprehensive university in Taiwan Province of China. Its predecessor was Taiwan Governor's College of agriculture and forestry. Later, it was affiliated to the Department of agriculture and forestry of Imperial University of Taipei. In 1943, he broke away from Imperial University of Taipei and moved to Taichung. He changed his name to Taichung higher agricultural and forestry school. In 1945, after the restoration of Taiwan, it was transformed into a provincial agricultural college, which was one of the only three provincial colleges at that time.
The university is one of the 12 key universities in Taiwan's "towards top universities program" and a member of Taiwan's European Union Center and Taiwan's comprehensive university system. The school started with the College of agricultural materials, and its life sciences, law and politics, and management schools have grown rapidly. It is also the first university in Taiwan to upgrade veterinary science to college level. The school is good at agricultural science, agricultural economics, veterinary medicine, life science, translational medicine, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, green technology and other fields, ranking among the top 1% of Basic Science Indicators in the world.
According to the official website of the University in May 2016, the university has two campuses, the headquarters and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with a total area of 54.96 hectares. The land owned by the University in Taiwan is second only to that of Taiwan University. The total number of students is more than 15000, including nearly 9100 in the University Department, more than 5900 graduate students and 965 teachers. In recent years, in cooperation with Taichung Veterans General Hospital, the Institute of medical science and technology and Rongxing translational medicine research center have been established, focusing on cancer medicine, immunology and medical engineering. In addition, the University and Hokkaido University have signed a number of large-scale agreements in different fields, and the two universities have a stable cooperative relationship.
Historical evolution
The period of Japanese occupation
In 1919, Taiwan Governor's office agricultural and forestry school was founded on the current site of rosford Road Campus of Taiwan University in Taipei, with the establishment of agricultural and forestry departments.
In 1922, it was renamed the higher agricultural and Forestry College of Taiwan Governor's office.
In 1927, it was renamed Taipei higher agricultural and forestry school.
In 1928, it became the special department of agriculture and forestry affiliated to Imperial University of Taipei.
In 1943, it became independent from Imperial University of Taipei, and moved to the southern suburb of Taichung, dingqiaozaitou (today's campus site). It was renamed Taichung Agricultural and forestry school, the first higher education institution in Taichung.
After the restoration
In 1945, the end of World War II, the closing ceremony was held on November 30, and on December 1, it was reorganized and renamed Taichung Agricultural College.
In 1946, it was upgraded to Taiwan Provincial Agricultural College, commonly known as Taichung Agricultural College, and established three departments of Agronomy, forestry and agrochemistry. December 1 is the anniversary of the school.
In August 1947, the Department of plant diseases and insect pests and the Department of agricultural economics were established.
In 1950, the Experimental Forest Management Office of Taiwan Provincial Agricultural College was established in Puli Town, Nantou County (moved back to the University headquarters in 1954).
In August 1956, botany and chemistry departments were established.
In the 1950s, Taiwan University, Provincial Normal University (the predecessor of Taiwan Normal University), Provincial Agricultural University (the predecessor of Taiwan Zhongxing University) and Provincial Institute of Technology (the predecessor of Taiwan Chenggong University) were the four major institutions of higher education in Taiwan.
In 1958, the Department of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine was established.
In 1960, the Department of plant diseases and insect pests was transformed into the Department of plant pathology and the Department of Entomology.
In 1961, the Institute of science and technology was established and merged with Taiwan provincial law and business school (originally a provincial local administrative college founded in 1949), and it was upgraded to Taiwan Provincial Zhongxing University, which was the beginning of the name of Xingda.
In 1964, a new Department of soil and water conservation was established in Taichung University.
In 1968, Taichung University set up a night department, a new Department of history, a new Department of foreign languages, and a college of Arts with the Department of Chinese.
In 1971, it was transferred to the Education Department of Taiwan and renamed Zhongxing University.
In 1974, the Department of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine was officially divided into two departments: the Department of veterinary medicine and the Department of animal husbandry.
In 1980, the livestock hospital was established by the agricultural college.
In 1995, the Taichung school district and the student union of Taipei law and business college were established respectively.
In 1995, the livestock hospital was renamed veterinary teaching hospital.
In 1999, the first veterinary college in Taiwan was set up. It is the first and most integrated Veterinary College in Taiwan.
In 2000, the law and business school in Taipei became the independent University of Taipei. A school of Social Sciences and management was set up in Taichung campus.
In 2005, the Education Department of Taiwan put forward the integrated development plan of Xingda and Taichung University of education, expecting to merge Xingda and Taichung University of education, so as to achieve the goal of redistributing educational resources equally. However, the University of Chinese education strongly objected, and the two schools also disagreed with the name of the merged school, so they failed. In the same year, it was selected into the "Ministry of education" plan of Taiwan authorities to develop world-class universities and top research centers (50 billion yuan in five years).
In 2008, it was selected as the second stage of the plan of developing world-class universities and top research centers (50 billion yuan in five years). In May, the center of Xingda science and technology base was officially opened.
In 2008, it signed a cooperation agreement with Chenggong University and Sun Yat sen University, and announced the establishment of T3 University Alliance. In 2010, Zhongzheng University was included and renamed "Taiwan T4 University Alliance".
In 2011, the second phase of the top program (from 100 to 104 years), ZTE university received a subsidy of 300 million yuan from the "Ministry of education" of Taiwan authorities.
In 2011, the school of management of Zhongxing University (formerly the school of social management) was approved by the "Ministry of education" of Taiwan authorities for its excellent performance in running a school. It was officially renamed the school of management from August 1.
In 2012, with "Taiwan Chenggong University", "Taiwan Sun Yat sen University" and "Taiwan Chung Cheng University", the first president of Taiwan comprehensive university system, academician Zhu Jingwu.
In 2014, Xingda merged "Taichung senior agricultural vocational school" and "Taiwan Dali senior high school" into "Taichung senior agricultural school affiliated to Taiwan Chung Hsing University" and "Taichung senior high school affiliated to Taiwan Chung Hsing University", setting a record for the first time that colleges and universities on the island have both senior vocational schools and senior high schools.
In 2017, the bronze statue of Chiang Kai Shek at the old school gate was demolished and replaced by the bronze statue of the late president Tang Huisun.

Research and development resources
Xingda integrates all departments, plans two fields of biotechnology and sustainable development of science and technology, and four research centers, so as to drive the overall development of eight colleges, including school of Arts, School of law and politics, School of management, School of science, School of technology, School of agriculture and natural resources, veterinary hospital and School of life sciences. In xingdazhong, the biotechnology section focuses on the research of agricultural molecular biotechnology, animal and plant gene transfer and clinical application of biomedicine, and combines with the related fields and research of medical ethics, science and technology law and environmental energy law of the school of law and politics. At present, the research and teaching of "agricultural biotechnology" and "bionic nanotechnology" are promoted mainly by the College of agriculture and natural resources, the College of veterinary medicine and the College of life sciences, supplemented by the College of science and technology.
