After driving through tiger mouth safely, although the road surface is relatively smooth, we must not take it lightly. Tongmai Bridge

Tongmai bridge is the throat project of 318 national highway of Sichuan Tibet highway. The bridge is designed as a double tower and double span suspension bridge, crossing Yigong Zangbo, a tributary of the palongzangbo River, with a total length of 258m, a main span of 210m and a height of 31.5m.

It turns out that there is a permanent reinforced concrete bridge here. On April 9, 2000, a landslide occurred around Yigong Lake in Tibet. Especially after the Yigong Lake burst, Tongmai bridge and some nearby roads were destroyed. The traffic of South Sichuan Tibet line was completely interrupted. More than 90 townships in Motuo, Bomi and Linzhi counties became isolated islands.

After the construction of Tongmai bridge is a temporary traffic engineering, the completion of the bridge, so that the interrupted 318 National Road can be unblocked.

During this period, troops were stationed on the Tongmai bridge, and armed soldiers were on guard at both ends of the bridge. Only one vehicle was allowed to cross the bridge at a time. When the vehicle passed the bridge, it was obvious that the iron cable bridge was shaking.

However, at 23:30 on August 2, 2013, the Tongmai bridge collapsed, causing a truck to fall into the river and at least four people missing. At present, the road reconstruction project is under way in this section. In the future, there will be five tunnels from Bomi to Linzhi to avoid the Dragon expelling natural danger, while Tongmai natural danger will be crossed by a reinforced concrete cable-stayed bridge.
