Bronze Buddhist temple
The original name of Tongfo temple is "Baiyuan Temple", and the date of its establishment is uncertain. In the 47th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1619), Yang Xixuan, the magistrate of Quanzhou, donated a lot of money to expand the land, covering an area of 4.3 mu. At the same time, fifteen bronze Buddhas were cast, five feet high, so the temple was named "bronze Buddha Temple".
Tongfo temple is located in the center of Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, on the Bank of baiyuanchuan lake. In front of the temple, there are green banyan trees and bright water. In the East, there is workers' Cultural Palace, and in the west, there are Quanzhou Confucius Temple, Minglun hall and other ancient buildings. It was announced as the first batch of municipal cultural relics protection units in 1962.
In 1752, Shi Guobao and others repaired it again. For hundreds of years, because of the impact of floods, or because of the turbulence of the current situation and the chaos of war, the bronze Buddhist temple has been destroyed repeatedly. But there are many people here who wish to rebuild, such as the aspiration of the Qing Dynasty and the sexual desire and consciousness of the Republic of China
Che and Jue yuan also held "juehua Buddhist Academy" and "Buddhist free clinic and pharmacy bureau" here. After that, the temple was repaired and built again and again.
There are many precious cultural relics. Among them, there are 15 bronze Buddhas, which were cast from the 12th to the 16th year of Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty. Master Hongyi, the great master of a generation, came to the temple in the 1930s and 1940s to settle in tin. His hand inscribed plaques and couplets still exist.
In recent years, incense has become more and more popular, and there is an endless stream of tourists and believers who come here to visit and worship. On the first and the fifteenth day of the lunar new year, pilgrims from all over the country gather in the temple. The sound of chanting is heard all the time, and the sound of bells and drums is heard all over the sky. It is a Buddhist resort in Quanzhou.
The current abbot is Chen miaolingu.
