Yangtai site is a typical site in the upper reaches of Huaihe River basin with rich cultural connotation, long history, large area and well preserved. It is of great academic value to study the inheritance and development sequence of early, middle and late Neolithic culture in southern Henan and even the whole upper reaches of Huaihe River Basin
Yangtai Temple site
Yangtai Temple site is located in the former site of Yangtai temple in Zhushi Township, northwest Yi District, Zhumadian City, Henan Province. It is a Neolithic site.
The Yangtai Temple site was discovered in 1983 and reexamined in August 1984. The site is nearly rectangular in plane, covering an area of nearly 100000 square meters. The cultural layer is 2 to 5 meters thick. There are remains of ash pits, house foundations, pillar foundations, pottery stoves, red burnt earth and pottery pieces.
In 1982, Yangtai Temple site was listed as a county-level cultural relics protection unit by Suiping County People's government. In 1996, it was announced as the second batch of provincial cultural relics protection units by Henan Provincial People's government. In June 2006, it was announced as the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council.
Historical evolution
Yangtai Temple site was discovered in 1983, with antlers, stone sickles and various pieces of pottery.
The site was reexamined in August 1984. From the deep ditch and cliff in the west of the site, the obvious cultural layer is 2-5 meters.
Cultural relics
The site is about 7 meters above the ground. It is 320 meters long from east to west and 250 meters wide from north to south, covering an area of 80000 square meters. Four kilometers away from Ruhe River in the northwest, a small river flows from the west of the site from south to north. It has been found that there are ash pits, house foundations, pillar bases, pottery stoves, and a large number of burnt clay and pottery pieces. From the collected pottery pieces and relics, its connotation is the remains of Neolithic Yangshao culture and Longshan culture. It is found that there are nail shaped tripod, duck beak shaped tripod and vessel cover, pottery beans, pottery pots, pottery bowls, red pottery bowls and filters. The colors of pottery are red, black, gray and brown, among which red pottery is the most popular. Most of the patterns are plain, with blue, arc, hole and additional stack patterns. The production tools include stone axe, stone arrowhead, stone sickle, pottery spinning wheel, etc. the decorations include pottery rings, and the production tools are mostly ground.

The Yangtai Temple site is rich in cultural connotation, has experienced a long time, a large area, and is well preserved. It has important academic value for studying the inheritance and development sequence of early, middle and late Neolithic culture in southern Henan and even the whole upper reaches of Huaihe River Basin.
