There are 8 vegetation types in the area, and there are more than 3500 kinds of higher plants, accounting for about one eighth of the national higher plants. Among them, 58 species of rare and endangered plants are listed as national key protected plants, accounting for 15% of the national protected plants. There are 816 species of timber trees, 25 species of bamboo and rattan, 136 species of oil plants, 62 species of aromatic plants, 39 species of tanning plants, 32 species of resin and gum, 90 species of fiber plants, 134 species of wild fruits and flowers, and 782 species of medicinal plants. The nature reserve is one of the genetic gene pools of tropical plants in China, and it is also a treasure of tropical plants in China.
significance
The establishment of Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve has effectively protected the wild plant resources and the surrounding ecological environment. Not long ago, the nature reserve was approved to join the international biosphere reserve network, becoming the 10th Nature Reserve in China to join the network.
It is worth noting that the forest damage is still serious. In the 1950s, the forest coverage rate here reached more than 60%, but now it is only about 30%. Deforestation has reduced the fog days in the area, and the phenomenon of "evaporation outside the forest and rain inside the forest" is not as obvious as before. The following is the increase of water evaporation, the decrease of air relative humidity, and the sharp increase of river sediment concentration; if this continues, the tropical rain forest plant community may become a tropical grassland community.
It is inevitable that animals will suffer. For example, gibbons like quiet and dense forest. With the expansion of human activities and the reduction of forest area, gibbons have moved to higher mountains. At present, we should focus on nature protection. We are looking forward to Xishuangbanna as a bright pearl.
