History and Humanities
Wenchang Pavilion is located in the northern part of Hongyang City, Gucheng, Puning. According to Qian Long's "Puning County Chronicles", "the division's mansion is located in Town God's Temple's Wenchang Pavilion, and Kangxi, sixty years, the county magistrate Luo Bin Qi advocated donation. In front of the hall, the porch is neat, and in the back of the pavilion, the statue of Wenchang is worshipped, and the bedroom of Yan is under it. There are nine rooms in total. All envoys are stationed here. According to the stele records of rebuilding Wenchang palace written by Zhang Xuan, the magistrate of Puning in Tongzhi and Guangxu years, Luo Bingqi, the magistrate of Puning in the 60th year of Kangxi, regarded Wenchang as the place where the article was written, not the place where the culture and education of Puning were not enough, but worshipped the rites. Therefore, it is advocated to donate "to the east of Town God's Temple, to remove the hazelnuts, to build the civil buildings, and then to the high court, and to worship Wenchang. Under it, there are nine dormitories, which are divided into three quarters. Gaipu City, the thoroughfare of the provincial tide, is the place where most of the luggage comes and goes. It can be seen that Wenchang Pavilion was built in the reign of Kangxi and rebuilt in the reign of Tongzhi. It has been used both as a place for worshipping Wenchang deities and as a branch of the imperial residence where the temporary envoys stayed. In the late Qing Dynasty, Hao Youjin and other four "masters" of Wu Yong were stationed here, and Wenchang Pavilion was also known as "four masters yamen".
It was built in 1721 (the 60th year of Kangxi reign) and rebuilt in 1872 (the 11th year of Tongzhi reign). It is still intact. It has three entrances and nine two patios, facing north and south, with a width of 13.97 meters and a depth of 57.6 meters. The ground is paved with red bricks. In the hall, there are four shuttle shaped stone pillars, the wooden frame is beam lifting, and the roof is Xieshan. The latter is a two-story loft with three rooms (two rooms and one living room), 13.35 meters wide and 8 meters deep, 8.2 meters high and double eaves. The architectural style is solemn, simple and generous.
In the 19th year of Daoguang (1839), Lin Zexu was appointed as an imperial envoy to Guangdong to ban opium. Fearless of death for a just cause, he stood firm against the pressure of capitulation of the Qing Dynasty, resolutely banned drugs, severely punished drug traffickers, destructed opium and was righteous, and organized officers and soldiers to resist the invasion of Western powers. Lin Zexu's selfless noble quality and fearless patriotism have been shining through the annals of history, leaving an indelible glory in the hearts of Chinese people at home and abroad. Over the past years, people from all walks of life have come to visit the Wenchang Pavilion in Puning, where Lin's loyal soul lives. During the visit to Wenchang Pavilion, people naturally show their reverence for Lin Zexu and their deep hatred of drug manufacturing, drug trafficking and invaders.

In 2006, Wenchang Pavilion was renovated, and Lin Zexu Memorial Hall and anti drug education base in Puning City were built. The restored Wenchang Pavilion basically maintains its original historical appearance. The second entrance hall of Wenchang Pavilion is equipped with an exhibition of anti drug education pictures, and the rear attic is Lin Zexu Memorial Hall. On the front of the first floor, there is a plaque "heaven and earth are healthy". In the middle hall, the bronze statue of Lin Zexu is dignified, lifelike and admirable.
