Hegui building

Hegui building is the tallest square building among all Fujian Tulou. But what's really amazing about it is that the whole building is actually built on 3000 square meters of swamp, and only more than 200 pine trees are used for piling and bedding. Hegui building has been standing on this huge floating bed for more than 200 years. For Tulou people, it is Noah's Ark in the swamp. Although you may think that it is no different from an ordinary building, when you stamp your foot in the patio and the whole building goes up and down, you can really feel that it is really in the swamp.

There is also a "Cuimei building" near hegui building, which is not included in the scenic area. If you pay 5 yuan to the residents, you can enter it. It is known as the "little dilapidated building".

Hegui building

Hegui building, also known as Shanjiao building, is located in Pushan village, Meilin Town, Nanjing County, 53 kilometers away from Nanjing County. Built in the 10th year of Yongzheng reign in Qing Dynasty, it was built by jiansipinggong with a total investment of 15000 taels. It covers an area of 1547 square meters and is the tallest earth building in Nanjing. This earth building is built on the swamp, with more than 200 pine piles, bedding, after more than 200 years is still solid and stable, well preserved.

Historical evolution

On April 3, 1986, Japanese scholar Kiichiro MaoMu came with his students to inspect the Tulou architecture. Because he couldn't find a special person to explain it, Jian Liangfa acted as a "tour guide" temporarily

In 2000, Fujian Tulou application for World Heritage officially started. At the beginning of the world heritage application, hegui building, as a representative of square building, not only had no carved beams and painted buildings, but also had two obvious cracks in the wall. At the beginning, experts and local government departments did not agree to declare the world heritage with your building

In July 2008, Fujian Tulou successfully applied for world heritage, and hegui building was listed in the World Heritage List

Architectural features

"Three wonders" of hegui building

Hegui building is five stories high, 21.5 meters. Don't underestimate this figure. It's "the most in the world", that is to say, hegui building is the tallest among all the known Fujian Tulou, which is a wonder.

And your building has 28 rooms on each floor, a total of 140 rooms. There is a gate in the middle of the building. There are stairs up and down in the East, West, North and south. It was built in the 10th year of Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1732). It is said that when the site was selected to build the building, it was not found that it was a swamp at first. The building was built on one floor. Suddenly, the whole floor slowly sank into the rotten land like a sunken ship. The Jian family members who built the building had no choice but to drive more than 100 cubic meters of row piles on the sunken building wall. They felt that the foundation was firm, so they began to tamp the wall from the beginning A five story square building was built. They seem to be very sure, never worried about the building will tilt or sink, sure enough, for more than 200 years, and your building as solid as gold, wind and rain as a mountain. You can insert the iron wire into the ground in the small patio of louzhong school. You can insert it more than 5 meters deep in one breath. When you pull out the iron wire, you can see the traces of mud on the iron wire. If you stamp your foot here, the whole pebble in the patio will vibrate like ripples. This is the second wonder.

The third wonder of the building is that the two wells in the building are 18 meters apart. The water level of the wells is above the ground. The well on the left is as clear as a mirror, and the water quality is sweet. A few red carp in the well are swimming like elves, while the well on the right is turbid, yellow, filthy, and can't be drunk at all. This is due to the different material structure of the two wells. Because the shallow layer of swamp is rotten swamp water, and the deep layer is drinkable groundwater. So in the design, both wells were drilled into the groundwater. However, the clean water well is made of cement, while the turbid water well is made of small round stones. This leads to less cracks in the clean water well wall and larger cracks in the turbid well wall. When the two wells pass through the swamp water layer, a large amount of swamp water seeps into the turbid well, resulting in turbidity and toxicity, while the clean water well does not seep too much, so it can be drunk.

School plaque

There is a gate in the middle of the building, and there are four stairways leading to each floor in the four corners of the building. There are three one hall style schools in the courtyard center. On the front door of the school, there are two signboards. One is the signboard of "promoting learning and respecting education" issued by Lin Sen, chairman of the national government, and established by Jian Xianqiang. The other is the signboard of "promoting learning and benefiting overseas Chinese" presented by Chen Shuren, chairman of the overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of the national government in October 2006.

Hegui building is built on the swamp with thousands of pine wood as the foundation. Due to the particularity of pine wood, hegui building has experienced several earthquakes and still can't fall down. If you step on the open space in the yard, it will be soft, and the bamboo stick will come out of the soil. Two wells are clear and one is muddy. It is said that the origin of the turbid well was caused by a woman who was in confinement when she was drilling the well.
