According to legend, when Zhang Gong wrote on the ladder, he asked the craftsman to remove the ladder. His pen was not separated from the stone, and he wrote a wonderful book with a nine foot long tail pen. Qingyunyan, founded in 1526, is a cultural relic protection unit in Shantou City. It is a magnificent Zen temple complex hidden among the mountains and rocks, which is very spectacular.

Yunyan Buddhist temple
"Yunyan Zen forest" refers to many temples and temple buildings. The most famous of these buildings is "Qingyun Temple". Chan temple was first built in the fifth year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty (1526). Because the temple is located between mountains and rocks, and the environment is quiet and solemn, predecessors also called it "Danqiu".
During the cultural revolution in the 1960s, temples were damaged and rebuilt in 1985. Zhao Puchu, President of the National Buddhist Association, inscribed the plaque "Qingyun Temple". Chen Dayu, a famous painter from Chaoyang, Shang chengzuo, a famous calligrapher, and Qin Yusheng wrote inscriptions or couplets for the temple. In recent years, the main hall and the Buddhist hall have been built and expanded respectively, forming a large-scale Buddhist Temple group.
On the left side of the temple are Zhenwu temple and Guandi temple. Zhenwu Temple worships Xuantian God, the God of Taoism. The temple was built very early. The 150 kg Gong and drum, which were made in 1734, are still preserved in the temple. They are special musical instruments for Taoism. In the center of the temple, there is a plaque inscribed by Tang Kuan in 1722. Guandi Temple worships the statue of Guandi, which represents loyalty, courage, benevolence and righteousness, which is the representative of Confucian moral style.
There are not only Buddhist temples dedicated to Sakyamuni, but also Xuantian God and Guandi temple. In this wall and round gate, Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism coexist. There are all kinds of people who come here to pay homage and worship. It also reflects the non religious nature of Chaoshan people's belief. Psychologically, they only "teach God" but not Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. This is also a very interesting social phenomenon different from other places.
Dolostone
It's a natural cave. The area of the cave is more than 20 square meters. It was founded in the fifth year of Jiajing (1526) of Ming Dynasty by Xinteng, a monk. He made use of the uneven shape on the surface of the huge stone at the top of the cave to carve out the cloud dragon pattern, which is vivid and lifelike. Inside the cave, a smiling Maitreya Buddha is carved on the rocks protruding from the East. There are front and back doors in the cave, and the plaque with the word "qingyunyan" still remains on the front door. This is the original site of qingyunyan. Around the cave, there are cliff inscriptions with calligraphy ink treasures of Yao Han, Zhang Guodong, Yu Xuzhao, Huang runpei and other famous scholars of the Qing Dynasty. The environment here is quiet. Overlooking from the entrance of the cave, you can see the green pines. Listening to the waves of trees, you can feel fresh.
Ancient stone Buddha cave
Through Qingyun temple, along the stone path, you can see a natural stone cave with the inscription of Qingyun rock on the entrance, which is the ancient stone Buddha cave. There is a stone statue of Maitreya Buddha in the cave, smiling at visitors. From the back door of the cave, you can have a panoramic view of the sea and sky, but you can see the vast expanse of sea waves under the dome, swaying in the sea breeze like a dream.
Dafeng ancient temple
Dafeng ancestral temple is located at the entrance of the mountain. Grandmaster Dafeng was a monk who was willing to do good deeds and help others in the Song Dynasty. He advocated charity all his life. There were more than 300 charity halls in Chaoshan area, which were set up on his call and won the support of the common people. The Dafeng ancestral temple was built in 1899 and rebuilt in 1924. On the left side behind the temple is a Buddhist hall dedicated to Sakyamuni Buddhas.
The temple is built close to the mountain, with jagged rocks, clear springs flowing and caves connected, forming many quiet and beautiful small landscapes, such as Longquan Qinyun, unique cave, small Taoyuan and so on. The winding path connects the colorful stone chambers to form a quiet cave, which is known as the "Eighteen caves" landscape by later generations. "Niuzhu Xijiang", "high mountains and long rivers" and so on are the unique scenery among the caves. Rocks, caves, springs, constitute a landscape everywhere, people linger.
Zhiyuan stone carving
"Only garden stone carvings" and mountain pavilions and cliff stone carvings are at the foot of the mountain on the left side of Dafeng ancestral temple. Between the huge rock crevices, there is a clear spring flowing out, and the spring water twists and turns, forming a natural scenic spot for sightseeing. As early as 1921, overseas Chinese living in Vietnam and Chaozhou people doing business in Shanghai raised funds to build Shanfang houses here, which were called "nanshannan" and "beishanbei". The cliff carving "preface to the South Mountain" praises the landscape here, saying: "the east of Ying is backed by mountains and faces water. It is a natural scenic spot, with three boundaries and nine rocks. It is salty for literati to visit." It can be seen that people enjoyed the natural scenery here at that time. Around the mountain stream, beside the strange stone path, and on the stone wall of the mountain, there are many impromptu inscriptions and poems written by the literati to match the scenes, such as "Xiang Yuan Yi Qing", "Shan Gao Shui Qing", "deep water fishing", "leisure" and so on. Later, some people named it "only garden" and "only garden stone carving" so it is famous far and near. It's still a good place to enjoy calligraphy and strange stones.
From the cliff of "only garden stone carving" up the mountain path to the gate of "Qingyun Temple", there are more than 700 climbing steps. They are tortuous and orderly. Under the shade of trees and vines, the air is especially fresh. There are small pavilions or pavilions beside the mountain path for tourists to have a rest. The names of pavilions, such as "enjoying the green near the pond", "enjoying the leisure in the middle of the mountain" and so on, add to the interest of tourists in climbing. After the road is built to the top of the mountain, few people climb this path. However, if there are people who are willing to climb along the path, they can enjoy the beauty of the deep natural mountains, breathe the unique fragrance of the wild plants, and have a different taste.
Development of scenic spots
Qingyunyan scenic spot has more than 100 cliff inscriptions, which is a rich cultural treasure house. There are many kinds of stone carvings, such as poetry, writing questions and sentences; the calligraphy font is composed of cursive script, regular script and seal script; in content, it is a portrayal of qingyunyan's beautiful environment, which is worth appreciating. The earliest stone inscriptions that can be identified are the seven character metrical poem inscribed by Xu Shixu in ancient Yue in the 10th year of Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1830) and the poem inscribed by Yao Han in Guichi County of Anhui Province in the 20th year of Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1840). (Yao Shiyun: "Qingyun rock can be compared to Danqiu. Every year you climb to the top. It's a festival when you have Huanghua. It's not autumn without red leaves. It's hard to break the Eternal Sorrow of Fan Chuan by pouring a thousand scoops of wine into Yuan Liang. If you look at the top of the mountain, you can't see it. The sea and the sky are empty for a long time. " )。
The stone carvings in qingyunyan scenic area, together with Mingquan and strange stones, are known as the three wonders, which are composed of 18 stone carvings
