This is the only paper Church in the world. It is also the first paper building in Taiwan and the first one brought from overseas. In 1995, architect Sakamoto built a light-weight paper church to commemorate the earthquake in Japan. Ten years later, the paper church was transported to the Taomi Community in Puli, the disaster area of the September 21 earthquake. Now, in addition to the paper church, there are Wetland Park, play pool, etc. in the park, you can spend the night in the home stay run by villagers, or taste local food in the restaurant. But because the scenic area is small, so if you are in a hurry friends can choose not to come, or in the evening to take time to come here, the scenery will be better in the evening!
Paper Church
Paper dome is located in the new hometown community of taomili, Puli Town, Nantou County, Taiwan. In addition to the paper church, there are Wetland Park, play pool, etc. in the park, villagers can stay overnight in their own homes, and they can also taste local food in restaurants.
On August 7, 2013, the first paper Church in the southern hemisphere was opened to the public in Christchurch, the largest city on the South Island of New Zealand.
Birth history
On January 17, 1995, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 struck Hanshin, Japan. Architect Sakamoto was deeply touched by the sight of the disaster area. He has always been concerned about the environment and humanism. As early as 1989, Sakamoto began to use waterproof paper tubes to make paper buildings. Many of his works have attracted international attention: the poet's library, the home of paper, the exhibition hall of Mitsuya in Tokyo, and the Japan Pavilion of Hannover Expo, which covers an area of 5000 square meters After the earthquake, Sakamoto went to the north of Noda and found a local priest in the rubble. He proposed to use light and fast assembled paper materials to build a "paper church".
The first time I heard this "absurd" proposal, the priest was very unhappy: "do you know that this is the place that has been burned!" But Sakamoto didn't give up. Taking advantage of his free time at work, he went back and forth to Kobe again and again, and explained to the priest the safety of the paper church by using the case that the bookstore and the wooden house were on fire at the same time and the bookstore was burning more slowly. Sakamoto's enthusiasm and the strong demand for meeting space for residents in the disaster area finally made the priest nod his head.
Architectural conception
Inspired by Bernini, the Baroque architect, Banmao's paper church is conceived as follows: using low-cost fiberglass wave board to build a rectangular external wall; using 58 5-meter-long, 33 cm diameter and 1.5 cm thick paper tubes to build an oval space that can accommodate 80 seats; forming a corridor between the oval formed by paper tubes and the external wall, the inner wall of the ellipse is filled with water The paper tubes at the entrance of the oval shape are arranged closely, serving as the background of the stage and the altar; the distance between the paper tubes at the entrance of the oval shape is large, and the roof is transparent, and the sky curtain casts soft sunlight, which makes people feel sublimated.
With the efforts of more than 300 volunteers, residents and Catholics, the paper church was completed two months later. The building, which broke the barriers of ethnic groups, religions and nationalities and built with joint efforts, was officially named "papar dome". In the following years, this 170 square meter space has held residents' meetings, film shows, concerts, church mass, wedding ceremonies, etc., and has become an important spiritual landmark for community reconstruction after the Kobe earthquake.
Church features
1. The columns and benches in the paper church are made of high-density kraft paper. The compressive strength of each one is 6936 kg, and the bending strength is 85.2 kg per square centimeter.
2. The paper church became the center of the community. It was a performance by the taomiri people in the church.
3. The white boat is Wang Zhenwei's "9.21" memorial work "shaking memory".
4. The garden is full of decoration and art works with frogs as the main body, which is the new cultural symbol of taomili's development - "frog Republic". The picture shows the frog praying for blessings.
5. On January 25, 2008, thousands of men, women, and children from all over Taiwan gathered in taomili. One by one, the paper pillars passed down from the mountain. In the singing voice of the elders, the 58 paper pillars of paper dome stood up again in two hours.
Disassembly and handling
Paper church transported to Taiwan
On May 29, 2005, the paper dome held its last mass in Japan and began to disintegrate: the staff from Taiwan made detailed records of the components, and brought a typewriter with them, which numbered every pillar, every window and every small part so that they could come back to Taiwan for re assembly. Later, the priest took the residents to Kobe port and watched the paper Church Board the ship bound for Taiwan.
After returning to Taiwan, in order to determine whether the paper tube that has been used for ten years is healthy, Xinxiang sent a sample to the laboratory of Construction Engineering Department of Chaoyang University of science and technology. After a complete physical properties test, the results show that: these paper tubes made of high-density kraft paper at one time have a compressive strength of 6936 kg and a bending strength of 85.2 kg per square centimeter. The paper tubes are in good condition and safe.
The idea of "new hometown" for the reconstruction of taomili is not only to erect the church, but to plan the whole ecological learning park. Therefore, the reconstruction of the paper church has gone through a long planning process.
On January 25, 2008, thousands of men, women and children from all over Taiwan gathered in taomili. The 58 paper pillars of paper dome stood up again in two hours. The church is located in the community probation Park of taomili's new hometown. Taomili is in Puli Town, Nantou County, Taiwan. It is a small mountain village beside Zhongtan highway, the only way to Riyuetan. Adults need NT $100 tickets to enter the park, and children's tickets are 50% off, which can fully cover any consumption in the park. In addition to the paper church, there are Wetland Park, play pool, etc. in the park, you can spend the night in the home stay run by villagers, or taste the local food in the restaurant.
Compared with Japan, paper Some changes have taken place in Dome: the temporary chain brick floor has been replaced by stone; the outer frame of the original wave board has been replaced by PC board; due to the damage of some paper pillars when they were transported to Taiwan and the slicing inspection by the customs, six of them have been made by the Taiwan paper factory, and the color is darker than other paper pillars, which can be clearly identified; the inner wall is covered with colorful curtains made of paper strips, which are elegant and romantic, and are decorated with paper I read people's wish cards. In addition to the outdoor open green landscape, standing in the green mountains and fields, it is more sacred, natural and soothing than the original crowded in the shed.
On July 5, 2008, when the night fell slowly, hundreds of people came to the park to listen to the concert. Invited by the "new hometown", the chief Orchestra of the "National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra" brought a classic music to hundreds of listeners. The last Encore is the song of the new hometown specially composed for this place.
