The West Open-pit Mine was mined in 1914. After liberation, it has undergone seven major technical transformations. At present, the production technology of "zonal mining, combined transportation and internal dumping" is adopted to implement horizontal slicing mining. Mining and loading are 3, 4, 8 and 10 m3 electric shovels, 85 and 150 tons DC standard rail electric locomotive and 32, 42 and 108 tons mining trucks for transportation. The main products are coal and oil shale. The coal is long flame coal and gas coal. The average calorific value is 7500-8000 kcal / kg. The oil content of oil shale is 6-14%. There are also two special products, namely coal essence and amber, which are rare minerals. Coal can carve all kinds of crafts, amber can make necklaces, jewelry and other decorations. West open pit mine is a subsidiary of Fushun Mining Group Co., Ltd., located in the west of Fushun Coalfield, South Bank of Hunhe River and north foot of qiantai mountain.

The mine is 6.6km long from east to west and 2km wide from north to south, with a total area of 13.2km square and a mining vertical depth of 388m. At present, there are 7268 on-the-job employees and 11000 retirees, with an annual production of 2.52 million tons of raw coal, stripping 13-14 million cubic meters, and rich ore supply capacity of 5 million tons. It is a large private enterprise.

The party and the state attach great importance to the development of mines. Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Zhu Rongji and other party and state leaders have come here to inspect. So far, international friends from more than 140 countries and regions as well as people from all walks of life inside and outside the province have come here for sightseeing and sightseeing, enjoying the magnificent scenery of the ten mile coal sea.

The West open pit mine of Fushun Mining Group Co., Ltd. is located in the west of Fushun Coalfield, at the north foot of qiantai mountain on the South Bank of Hunhe River. It is famous for its long mining history, grand scale and advanced technology.

The West open pit was mined in 1901. In 1914, it was converted to open-pit mining, which is a large coal mine with a history of 100 years. The West open pit is 6.6km long and 2.2km wide, with a total area of 14.52km2 and a mining depth of 400m.

The West open pit mine has 5725 employees, with an annual output of 2.6 million tons of raw coal, stripping 15 million cubic meters, and a rich mine supply capacity of 7 million tons. The mine adopts the production process of "mining by zones, combined transportation and internal dumping".

The party and the state attach great importance to the development of mines. On February 13, 1958, Chairman Mao Zedong personally inspected the mine. In September of the same year, Comrade Deng Xiaoping came to the mine. In 1990, General Secretary Jiang Zemin came to xizhentian mine and went deep into the pit. On July 21, 1997, Premier Zhu Rongji inspected the West open pit mine. On June 1, 2003, general manager Wen Jiabao inspected the mine. Ye Jianying, Dong Biwu, Qiao Shi, leaders of the Equality Party of Song Dynasty and the state all visited here.

Up to now, international friends from more than 140 countries and regions as well as people from all walks of life inside and outside the province have come here for sightseeing, enjoying the majestic appearance of the ten mile coal sea. In July 2004, the West open pit mine was rated as one of the first batch of industrial tourism demonstration sites in China. It has become a tourist attraction integrating natural landscape and cultural landscape, spreading the development history of the mine and tasting the cultural landscape.
