Water mirror stage
Jinci water mirror stage is located in the southwest of Taiyuan Jinci, is the existing larger stage of Ming and Qing Dynasties. The stage is divided into two parts. From the perspective of architectural form, the backstage is built in the Ming Dynasty, and the front stage is built in the Qing Dynasty. At the front desk, there are 12 columns to support the roll shed roof, and all kinds of decorations are added around the roof. There are four corner columns in the backstage, with two sides of veranda connecting with the front desk. The upper and lower doors are set between the front and rear platforms, which are separated by wooden boards and hung with a horizontal plaque of "water mirror platform". The foundation of the platform is 1.3 meters above the ground. Stone watchtowers 60 cm high are arranged at the front edge, and the stone fence is embedded to surround the front and rear platforms, so as to integrate the whole building.
building structure
From the perspective of architectural structure, the water mirror platform embodies four styles: hall, platform, building and pavilion. Looking from the East, the upper part is the top of Xieshan with double eaves, which looks like a building; the lower part is a broad palace, which is also a palace. From the west, the upper part is a single eaves roll shed roof, like a pavilion; and below is a spacious platform. This is a special building composed of hall building and rolling shed. The latter part of the single eaves roll shed top floor desk is the front stage of the drama, facing the Notre Dame hall. It is surrounded by porches with round windows on the left and right sides of the door. The characteristics of ancient buildings in the north are very obvious. It is said that there are many big water tanks buried under the stage, each two of which are buckled together to form four "big speakers". This is an ancient way to enhance the sound effect. Because of this big urn speaker, the audience can hear the sound on the stage no matter where they stand in the temple.
Cultural connotation
Shuijingtai is magnificent in shape and exquisitely carved, integrating the building, platform, hall and pavilion. When the Empress Dowager Xi first built the summer palace, she sent someone to copy the Jinci stage.
The plaque on the upper part of shuijingtai is a book written by Yang Tinghan, a famous calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty. The calligraphy is elegant and powerful. The plaque on the roll shed built in the Qing Dynasty is inscribed by Yang Eryou, a famous calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty and a famous scholar of the Jin ancestral temple. It is famous for its beauty and is known as one of the three famous plaques of the Jin ancestral temple. Interestingly, Yang Eryou is the nephew of Yang Tinghan. His uncle and nephew, Yiwu and Yiwen, each inscribed with a plaque, one in front and one in back, hang on the water mirror stage, adding a lot of color to the stage.
There are dozens of sacrificial activities held every year in Jinci temple, among which 13 sacrificial days are for opera singing. Except for performing on the Jun grand stage, the rest are performed on the water mirror stage.
