Nanyue shuilian cave is one of the "four wonders of Nanyue". It is located in shuilian village, Nanyue Township, under zigai peak, 4 kilometers away from Nanyue town.

history

According to records in Yitong Zhi and Fudi Zhi, shuilian cave was named Zhuling cave in ancient times. It is said that it was the place where the great emperor of Zhuling lived. In the Tang Dynasty, Zhuling cave was called "zigaixian cave". Taoism believes that it is the "third cave" of Taoism, which is the "heaven of great emptiness and small existence" of Zhuling. It is also called "Zhuling cave" for short. It has always been the cave where immortals live. "Qianhuo Lei Shu" says: it is said that in ancient times, Dayu came to Nanyue to control the flood and ask for gold slips and jade books. A sacrificial ceremony was held in the cave of Zhuling. In the 26th year of Kaiyuan (738 AD), Emperor Xuanzong of Tang sent his servant Zhang Fengguo and Taoist sun Zhiliang to drop gold dragon slips from the capital. This grand occasion of "dragon throwing from the cave" is recorded in detail in the annals of Nanyue. Later generations wrote a couplet at the place where the Golden Dragon and jade slips were thrown from shuilian cave

The source of Shuiliandong waterfall is in the spring of zigaifeng. The three springs converge and flow into the valley above the water curtain cave. The valley is three feet wide. It used to be the habitat of nine real people in the Liang Dynasty. Later, the nine immortals temple was built. There are taiyangquan, xixinquan, dongzhenyuan and xianrenchi near Jiuxian temple. It is said that the spring is unfathomable. The spring water flew down from the stone wall and made a thunderous sound, which spread for ten miles. After traveling here in Ming Dynasty, Zhang Juzheng said: "the waterfall and spring are scattered, the water curtain is stacked, hanging in the clouds, hanging like a pearl, falling like jade.". Indeed, it spilled down from the cliff, three too wide and more than 50 meters high. It was like a huge white curtain, which was blocked by rocks in the middle of the cliff. Then it buckled and refracted from the crevice, and jumped out. The water splashed all over the valley, glittering with dazzling brilliance. The blue pool under the water curtain, the clouds in the sky and the green mountains on both sides constitute a beautiful landscape painting. In the Ming Dynasty, Zhang Juzheng wrote "shuilian cave" in praise: "if you mistakenly suspect that Yinghai is turning qionglang, don't think that the Milky way is turning Biliu; since Xiangfei is in deep hiding place, the crystal curtain is hanging five heads away.". This poem can be said to write a water curtain cave of light, sound, shadow three unique wonders.

On the right side of shuilian cave, the stone wall is steep. Originally, there was a stone house on the rock, the Dragon Temple. This ancestral hall is the place where Zhang Fengguo and sun Zhiliang, the Taoist priest of Xuanzong sect of Tang Dynasty, put in the "golden dragon jade slips". On the opposite side of the mountain stream, which is more than 20 Zhang away from the Dragon Temple, there is a hexagonal pavilion inlaid with stone, called Xuelang Pavilion. It was built by Li Yuandu in 1884. There are stone tables and benches in the pavilion. The pavilion is named after the rippling water. At that time, sitting in the pavilion, you can see the pearls and jade jumping in the Bitan, and you can hear the roar of steroids. You can feel the taste of the four characters "Xia Xue Qing Lei" engraved on the stone wall. Now there is no Dragon Temple, only the wa Lang Pavilion still exists. It provides convenience for tourists to have a rest and enjoy the wonders of shuilian cave.

It is said that Zhuling cave is connected with Zhuling cave on Hengyang shigu mountain. The cave in shigu is the back cave of Zhuling, and the cave in Nanyue is the front cave of Zhuling. The source of water comes from the top of zigai peak in Nanyue. It flows through the cave and into the unfathomable stone cave which is more than 6 meters wide. The water overflows and falls down vertically to form a waterfall which is more than 60 meters high. It is like a water curtain hanging for nine days, so it is called shuilian cave. Every sunny day in the sky, above the water curtain, the rainbow shines, colorful, magnificent. In Tang, song, Ming and Qing Dynasties, many famous poets wrote poems for it. The stone inscriptions include "Nanyue Zhuling cave" in the Song Dynasty, "the first spring in the world" in the Ming Dynasty, "summer snow, clear thunder" and "Zui Mian waterfall" in the Qing Dynasty. In addition, there are "flying Qiong splashing snow", "curtain hanging ancient and modern" and so on. Shuiliandong is the place where Taoism activities took place in Tang Dynasty. They regard it as a blessed place and call it "Zhuling cave". Tang Xuanzong also sent the court's internal history to lead the Taoists to sacrifice in Longtan. The valley above shuilian cave was built into a large reservoir in 1964. The old Taiyang spring and Xixin spring were submerged in the reservoir. The water from the reservoir can irrigate the farmland. It can also generate electricity. Waterfall like a layer of white thin yarn, light down to the bottom of the pool. Therefore, "the wonder of shuilian cave" is still a unique feature of Nanyue.

Shuilian cave is under Huagai peak, 3.5km northeast of Nanyue town. It was called Zhuling cave in ancient times. The cave is between the two mountains. Water rushes from the canopy and flows into it seven meters wide

The unfathomable stone cave is full of water, flowing down the stone wall in front of the cave, forming a waterfall more than 30 meters high, hanging in the air like a curtain of water. The stone wall protrudes from it and holds the water curtain out in half. The water drops fly tens of meters away. It's really jade flying, snow splashing and thunder. If the beautiful sun is in the sky, the water curtain is even more colorful and the rainbow is shining, so it has the reputation of "the wonder of the water curtain cave".
