Zhao yongxianzhai
Zhao Yongxian house, located at No. 10, Nanzhao lane, xijing'an District, Changshu City, Jiangsu Province, was built in 1553, the 32nd year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty.
Zhao Yongxian house is a group of main axis houses with a total area of more than 400 square meters. There are three rooms in the gate, with the front eaves and brackets protruding and the appendix painted. The four rafters and flat beams of the hall are moon beams. There are three relief decorations, such as cloud, lotus leaf, beam mat, wing arch, etc. Liang Fang and Dou Gong are all painted and molded with asphalt powder, which is fresh and elegant. Because Zhao Yongxian's library is well preserved, Maiwang library is known as the "living fossil" of China's private library. It not only provides rare material materials for the study of residential buildings and color painting art in Ming Dynasty, but also adds luster to Changshu's profound historical and cultural heritage, which has extremely important historical and artistic value.
On May 25, 2006, Zhao Yongxian house was announced as the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council of the people's Republic of China.
Historical evolution
Zhao's residence in Changshu is numerous: Zhao Yongxian's first residence in Changshu is located in Chengjia Lane on the Bank of Wangxian bridge in the north of kuatangqiao. It is an old house in Linliu, named songshizhai.
In 1553, Changshu county magistrate Wang tie moved Changshu to the west to build a new city. Therefore, Zhao Yongxian moved to the West jiuwanwei, xijing'an Venetian street, and later changed his name to nanzhaonong, or nanzhaojianong.
In the reign of Wanli (1563-1620), Zhao Yongxian bought another estate of Qiu family in the north of Changshu City as a villa, which was located in zhentingmen street and named Zhao's North Garden.
In the sixth year of Xianfeng (1856), Zhao Zongjian repaired the old house in baocili, which not only repaired the old house, but also expanded the land house.
In 1889, meidang pavilion was built in jiushanlou.
In the 26th year of Guangxu (1900), meidang pavilion was rebuilt.
In 1924, the warlords Qi Xieyuan and Lu Yongxiang fought together until the Japanese invasion of China, and the old shanlou was completely destroyed.
In 1966, the plaque of Maiwang hall was destroyed.
In 2005, in order to cooperate with the protection and reconstruction of Changshu old city, the municipal cultural relics management department carried out a comprehensive repair and protection of the house.

There are also Taihu stones of Ming Dynasty in the courtyard.

Zhao Yongxian's residence is an ancient official residence of Ming Dynasty, which is a typical bureaucratic residence of Ming Dynasty. Zhao Yongxian and his son Qimei were the left servant of the Ministry of officials in the Longqing Dynasty and the doctor of the Ministry of punishment in the Wanli Dynasty. The beams of Zhao Yongxian's house are carved with exquisite patterns such as cloud crane and lotus leaf, and the Liang Fang and Dou Gong are painted with color, which fully shows the unique technique of color painting in the south of the Yangtze River.
Cultural relics
According to Zhao Dingyu's bibliography, Zhao Yongxian's house has collected more than 3000 kinds of books, and Zhao Yongxian's son Qimei has collected more than 5000 kinds and 20000 volumes. There are 36 kinds of books and 126 volumes.
Research value
Because Zhao Yongxian's library is well preserved, Maiwang library is known as the "living fossil" of China's private library. In history, Maiwang library is as famous as Qian Qianyi's Jiangyun Pavilion and Mao Jin's Jigu Pavilion. It is one of the most famous libraries in the history of ancient Chinese book collection. Zhao Yongxian's house has preserved a relatively complete bureaucratic house structure in the south of the Yangtze River, which provides rare material materials for the study of residential buildings and color painting art in the Ming Dynasty. It also adds luster to Changshu's profound historical and cultural heritage, and has extremely important historical and artistic value.

In November 1982, Maiwang museum was announced as a county (city) level cultural relic protection unit in Changshu.
In 1995, Zhao Yongxian house was listed as a cultural security unit in Jiangsu Province.

History and culture
Zhao Yongxian's residence is the residence of Zhao Yongxian and his descendants in Ming Dynasty. Zhao Yongxian (1535-1596) was named Ru Shi and Ding Yu. He was a Jinshi in the fifth year of Longqing in the Ming Dynasty (1571). He was an official to the right servant of the Ministry of rites. He was presented to the Minister of rites at the beginning of Tianqi, and his posthumous title was "Wen Yi". His son, Qimei, was a doctor of the Ministry of criminal justice. Both father and son like to collect books. They are famous book collectors in Longqing and Wanli.
