Siqian Street
Siqian street is a street in the southwest of Suzhou city. It is located in the south of the middle section of Daoqian street. It is named after Siyu and siyamen in Ming and Qing Dynasties.
geographical position
Siqian street is located on the south side of the middle section of Daoqian street. In the south, it is bounded by Sanduo bridge and connected with dongdajie street. In the north, it is bounded by Jili bridge. Crossing the bridge, Daoqian street is straight with Yuyu lane.
Place name allusion
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there was a prison division yamen, so it was called. "Zhili bridge is now mistaken as Jili bridge," says Wu Jun Zhi The South Street of jiliqiao was called "zhiliqiao South Street" by Wang Jian. It was marked as Siqian street in Wu county annals of the Republic of China, and it was also marked as Siqian street in Gusu, Suzhou City, Wu County and Suzhou.
Street status
The street is 375 meters long and 10 meters wide. It was originally a marble pavement with a width of 3 meters. In 1974, it was widened and replaced with asphalt pavement. In 1980, it was widened again, thus forming the present situation.
Historical relics
It is said that No. 16 Xu Chaozong's house is the original site of Xu Huilan's house (see "Panmen Street" for details). Mercury once appeared on the floor of the sedan hall, which was once occupied by the Taiping army. No. 95 is a Xuantan temple built in Ming Dynasty.
