On May 28, 1865, the Presbyterian missionary doctor James Ma landed in Taiwan from Kaohsiung and came to Fucheng. He started western medical missionary work in wutiaogang Guanxi Street (formerly No. 43 Ren'ai Street). However, he was opposed by the local conservative forces. Because the chapel was surrounded by angry crowds, he turned to avoid practicing medical missionary work behind the flag.
At the end of December 1868, Dr. James returned to Fucheng to work in the old building (the predecessor of today's new building hospital) at tingzijiao. In 1903, the Memorial Chapel of James in Taipingjing was founded. On May 27, 1917, the Church of Taipingjing set up a preaching office in kanxi street, the birthplace of the church. In 1939, the branch was officially established, known as "Yongle church". In 1951, the church was built on the site, which is similar to the British church The white dome church of St. Paul's Cathedral was completed in 1955. To commemorate this pioneering history of Christian missionary work in Taiwan, it was named "kanxijie church".
