Historical evolution

Henan Normal University is a provincial key university. Its predecessor is Zhongzhou university founded in 1923 and Pingyuan Normal University founded in 1951. In many social changes, it has gone through the periods of Science Department of Henan Sun Yat sen University, Science College of Henan University and Science College of national Henan University.

Henan Normal University

In August 1949, plain province was established. In October 1950, the people's Government of Pingyuan province decided to establish a university with the name of "Pingyuan University".

In March 1951, with the approval of the central Ministry of education, the school was named "Pingyuan Normal University".

On November 23, 1951, Pingyuan Normal University held a grand opening ceremony.

In August 1953, Pingyuan Normal University merged with Henan University in Kaifeng to set up Henan Normal University, which has two branches: the first and the second. The first college runs in Kaifeng, which is a combination of the liberal arts of Henan University and Pingyuan Normal University; the second college runs in Xinxiang, which is a combination of the science of Henan University and Pingyuan Normal University. After the adjustment, the second college has set up four departments of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, and has become a pure science normal college, which has lasted for many years.

In 1956, Henan Normal University was upgraded to Xinxiang Normal University.

From 1956 to 1965, a total of 6708 students were recruited and 6007 graduated.

After the outbreak of the "Cultural Revolution" in May 1966, schools were severely damaged.

Since 1975, the university has resumed the major of liberal arts and entered a period of joint construction and development of Arts and science. Science is still the main specialty.

In 1976, after smashing the gang of four, the school embarked on the road of revitalization and development through bringing order out of chaos and a series of construction and reform.

In 1978, it began to recruit graduate students.

Henan Normal University

In June 1985, Xinxiang Normal University was renamed Henan Normal University.

In 2007, the Ministry of education identified as the outstanding school of undergraduate teaching evaluation.

In November 2012, Henan Normal University was selected as the national "comprehensive strength improvement project of universities in central and Western China".

In May 2013, it was identified as the first batch of social work professional training base of the Ministry of civil affairs.

In 2014, it was selected into the first batch of "excellent agriculture and forestry talent education and training plan" and the first batch of "excellent teacher training plan".

In August 2015, the people's Government of Henan Province and the Ministry of Education formally signed an opinion that the two sides will jointly build Henan Normal University.

In 2017, the school was selected into the national "111 plan".

In November 2018, Henan Normal University and other eight domestic universities jointly launched the "collaborative innovation platform for undergraduate major construction of Marxist theory" in Lanzhou University, realizing the integration of cross regional education resources. In December, the biomedical research institute jointly built by Henan Normal University and Henan chest hospital was founded.

In April 2019, the unveiling ceremony of the Education Department of Henan Normal University was held.

In February 2020, the university is listed as one of the nine characteristic backbone universities in Henan Province.

As of September 2017, Henan Normal University has 24 secondary colleges and one independent college (Xinlian College of Henan Normal University), with 80 undergraduate majors.

The school has a strong faculty and a large number of top talents.
