Gangxiang Nature Reserve

Gangxiang nature reserve is located 22km west of Zhamu Town, Bomi County, on the south side of palongzangbo, covering an area of 4600 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of more than 61%. In the area, there are high mountains, dense trees, towering ancient trees, rich in various kinds of precious Chinese medicinal materials, and rare wild animals such as takin, leopard, argali and black bear. The palongzangbo river basin is one of the three largest primeval forests in China, with lush green shade, gurgling streams, gentle slopes, small ridges, log bridges, pastures, tea factories, fences and snow mountains. Linzhi spruce forest in Gangxiang is tall and straight, dense and thick, with trunk diameter of 2M and tree height of 80m. In 2005, it was rated as one of the ten most beautiful forests in China by National Geographic of China.

The purpose of Gangxiang nature reserve is to protect the high-yield spruce forest and other rare plants and animals. It is located 22 km west of Zhamu county. The width of the reserve is about 12 km from east to west and 24 km from north to south, with a total area of 4600 hectares. Among them, the forest area is more than 2800 hectares, and the forest coverage rate is more than 61%.

The growth rate, continuous growth period and unit volume of forest in the reserve are much higher than those of similar forests at home and abroad, especially spruce.

Protected objects

In 1984, it was designated as a forest ecosystem nature reserve mainly for the protection of high-yield coniferous forest. There are also abundant animal resources in the reserve, such as takin, leopard, argali, black bear, macaque, snow chicken, musk deer, parrot, yellow muntjac and so on.
