Round Buddha Hall

The appearance of the Buddha Hall is cylindrical, made of stone blocks, 16 meters in diameter, and extremely thick; the top is umbrella shaped, dome shaped; the doors and windows are also western architectural style. In the internal structure, the center of the circle is a solid stone column, which goes straight to the top of the hall and props up the whole hall; around the stone column are two concentric walls, the inner circle is the hall for Bodhisattvas, and between the inner circle and the outer circle is a corridor. The whole building looks smooth and elegant. According to textual research, the round Buddha Hall in Lushan adopts the architectural style of the temple of heaven, echo wall and Western Renaissance style, which is unique among the relatively conservative Buddhist buildings in the world.

Round Buddha Hall

The tail of Lion Peak. In the mid-1920s, it was built in an umbrella shape, which is called round Buddha Hall. It was originally five doors, each with a Buddha statue inside, so it is also called five Buddha Hall. Later, the Buddha statue was destroyed and changed into a window.

Historical development

It is located in Lushan, Jiangxi Province.

The whole building looks smooth and elegant. However, the inner structure is not like a Buddha Hall, because there is a solid stone pillar in the middle: it goes straight to the top of the hall, and its shape is unique. What does it symbolize? There is a popular saying among the people: This hall was built by Tang Shengzhi. The motive is to bury Fengshui for his mother and take a fancy to shizifeng. Because there is Tianchi temple at the head and Tianchi tower at the back, there is no building at the tail, so we have to fix it here. It took six years to build this small building, which naturally attracted people's attention. Probably, it contains such a secret: the mother of the Tang Dynasty ate fast and chanted Buddhism, and was buried in the middle of the hall when she was seated. A stone pillar was erected in the middle of it to show the lion tail at the end of Lion Peak.
