Evolution of school history

Northwest Transportation School

In 1951, northwest Jiaotong school was founded on a barren beach in the suburb of Lanzhou, which laid the first cornerstone of Chang'an University.

In 1953, the Xi'an Geological School of the Geology Department of the Central People's government and the Xi'an Construction Engineering School of the Construction Engineering Department of the Central People's government were established successively.

In 1952, northwest Jiaotong school moved to Xi'an and changed its name to Xi'an Highway school. In 1955, it was renamed Xi'an automobile machinery school of the Ministry of communications.

Xi'an Highway College

In 1958, the state transferred the teachers and equipment of the Preparatory Committee of Beijing highway college to Xi'an. On the basis of Xi'an automobile machinery school of the Ministry of communications, Xi'an Highway college was founded, becoming the first higher education institution in Asia specialized in cultivating senior talents in highway transportation.

In 1978, graduate education began.

In 1981, it became one of the first batch of master's degree awarding units in China.

In 1984, it became the second batch of doctoral degree awarding units in China.

Chang'an University

On April 18, 2000, Xi'an Highway Jiaotong University, Xi'an Institute of engineering and Northwest Institute of architecture and engineering merged to form Chang'an University, which was under the management of the Ministry of education.

In April 2006, the University was selected as the National College Students' cultural quality education base.

In 2008, the school was selected into the national "111 plan" for the first time. In June 2010, it was selected as one of the first batch of "excellent engineer education and training plan" universities of the Ministry of education.

In April 2011, he became a founding member of high-level industry characteristic university high-quality resource sharing alliance. In 2012, the graduate school was established.

In September 2017, it was selected as a world-class discipline construction university.

In January 2018, the school was selected into the first batch of "new engineering" research and practice projects of the Ministry of education.

In February 2019, the University was recognized by the Ministry of education as one of the first batch of Universities' scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer bases. In December, it won the title of "National University with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship education reform".

In April 2020, the school of transportation engineering of Chang'an University was established; in the same month, the school of international transportation of Chang'an University, a non independent legal person Chinese foreign cooperative school run by the school and Dublin University of Ireland, was officially approved.

In June, the school of Humanities of Chang'an University was established.

In 1956, the University began to recruit foreign students.
